I just contacted a guy with a decent looking tandem axle Appalachian. Want’s $8,000 which is $2,000 too high.
He kept asking me if I wanted to buy it. Told me he turned down 3 guys that offered him $7,000. I said nothing. Within 3 days, he says “tell ya what, I’ll sell it to ya for $6.500”. I kinda laughed to myself how he starts at 8, tells me he turned down 7 THREE times, then offers to me for $6,500.

I may call him back and offer 6 with a PA inspection sticker, but even at 6 it’s only a decent buy.

I'd certainly want to look it over first.

Here’s an example of the incredible photography you get in some for sale ads. Picture looks like it was taken under water. Love the price! $1 !!

Anyone know what “no hazing” means?

I think hazing means harassment or tricks. Most ads say serious inquiries only. The dollar probably is to increase people looking since some people filter by price.

"Baler never missed a tie when it was put away". ==> Needle brake wore out, needles drop into the danger zone and both frames are busted. "But she'll tie again" someday after a LOT of new unavailable parts...

I found out “no hazing” is Duramax dialect. It means no exhaust haze and that means the injectors are good.

Oh ok...I thought seller didn't want trolls or harassment. Seller should post price in ad.

Just read a classified that said "Price is firm, dont have to sell". If you dont have to sell it, then why list it? How does that help move it? To me, it pushes the buyer away right from the start.

Never bought anything used from this site, ever. I buy and sell on Farcebook Maketplace now. CL is funky.

I would imagine that wording is to reduce the low-ball offers. I use the term "non negotiable" often, but still get low-ball offers. Sometimes I just list at 10-20% over what I really want so the buyer feels better when negotiating.

Forty years ago my wife and I took a truckload of TVs & stereos to the flea market. Everything had a price tag. Hours went by and we didn't sell anything.
Then this old guy walks up: "Do they work?".
"Yes, they all do" I replied. He said "You're too cheap. People think they're junk. Double the price and see what happens".
Within an hour after we did that we sold everything.

Almost all sellers on FB marketplace or craigslist embellish the products condition or quality of whatever product. If says "price not negotiable" I won't waste any time on it.

"testing the waters" and "not in a rush to sell". See this all the time. What is "testing the waters". LOL

Awhile back I went to a Car Boot Sale. (A Car Boot Sale is where at a pre arranged field, sellers arrive with their cars loaded with stuff they want to sell, They are formed into rows and then mostly set up their own table or sheet on the ground, get their stuff out ready for the 'buyers' to arrive later) Anyway I had a fair bit to sell and a good but old working lawn mower that I wanted out of the way. I was willing to sell the mower for £5.00 just to get it gone. A buyer came up, How much for the mower?. £5.00 I said. Will you take £2.50 he said. Sorry was my answer, It has to be £6.00. it's worth every penny. What do you mean £6.00. he came back, It was £5.00. I know it was I said, But it has gone up to £7.00 now because people have started to mess me about. He walked away and about 5 minutes later another guy checked it over and gave me £5.00.

My favorite that I see with used Agriculture equipment is “Been through the Shop”

Yes, "Many new parts" is also a big red flag for me. Who put the parts on, and what quality of parts and labor?

On the other side of the coin...
I've been helping out neighbor for a while now, selling off old "stuff" from their barn for medical expenses. I have no idea how to price a lot, so I research to get a general idea. I then go a bit lower, so both buyer and seller get a good deal. Around here, at least, everything people are looking to buy is treated like crap. (when they sell, it turns to gold) I'm honest in the ads, and in person, if I know something isn't right. Some have actually expressed appreciation for me doing that. Some throw out a lowball offer, online without looking at it. Make appointments to see, but don't keep. Although for some time now, I feels like I'm running a business, and really don't like 75% of all interactions. All while trying to help out elderly neighbors. Sometimes, people suck.
On OG topic, sometimes, people suck.

This is an older thread, but worth reviving so ill add a few.

My favorite is:
"Won't last long at this price!" --wont last long, period.

"well maintained" -- I've gone broke trying to keep it running and need cash to buy groceries.

"Brakes are good"-- as long as you don't want to stop.

"Custom exhaust" --the muffler fell off last week.

"Many new parts" --my mechanic couldn't find the problem either.
