If you haven't done it before and really, really want to paint the rims I suggest getting some jack stands and take all 4 tires to a tire shop. It's a tough job unless you have a bead breaker and some tire spoons, air compressor, experience, etc.

I painted my 4 wheels for my trailer last weekend and I removed the wheels from the trailer and used 2 inch masking tape and trimmed the wheel edge with a razor knife and put another row around the edge of that and I had some minor over spray on tires that I washed off very easy.
I used a regular spray gun with very low pressure and I had real good control of paint
It was time consuming but the results are nice, I'll take some pictures this weekend and post them in my gallery here

Same thing here. Masked the tires off and any overspray is easily removed with a little water and scotch brite pad or steel wool. Much easier than removing the tires.

Duh, I did it the hard way ? I used Rust-O-leum paint and I used car gas and my tires look real purty now, real easy to do with the right stuff

I'd just mask off the tires and paint them. Taking them off seems like too much work

Well, I take the middle road. Use a tire spoon and hammer to move the bead down about 1/4 inch. Then cut cardboard to slide between the tire and rim, paint rim, remove cardboard, air tire.

done
