Could someone help find the post on BX2200 tires. What to order. I am buying one this week off the lot and it has turfs. I am getting the FEL and 60". Need to put in a lawn on 3 acres flat, after the new house is done. Move some landscape stone etc. Then it will be just mowing (nice lawn i hope) and clearing snow off 150' flat concrete driveway. I found it after doing a search, then had to close it when the boss came in the office, now i can't find it.

Thanks

I was the one asking the question. I ended up just taking the turf tires---so far, I'm very happy with the decision. My major issue is that my lawn areas can be pretty moist during the year, and so far the tires have been very easy on the lawn during mowing.

I've done some light FEL work and lawn rolling as well as some mowing. The only thing you might need to consider is chains in the winter to deal with the drive.

Jim,

How effective is the lawn rolling that you've done? I told the wife the other night that I felt we needed to get the lawn rolled. The mower (walk behind) just bounces all over the yard as I mow. Does rolling really smooth things out where it's that noticeable?

rwl......you don't think I know what you're doing on that computer??? You should have asked. I could have told you right where the thread was/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

Thanks, I'm thinking turfs.

I rolled last year with a home made roller plastic 55 gallon drum filled with concrete with a shaft/bearings and hitch. It made a world of difference in the way my Toro walk behind bounced and rattled along. BUT, it only lasted for most of the summer and is just as bad now. I think it has to do with the over-abundance of nightcrawlers and the poor clay soil going through frost etc. But it was worth it, time only.

Golfgar4,

The rolling is extremely effective---I get more seat time and I get to buy stuff to drag behind the new tractor /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif...

But seriously, it seems to have helped flatten out our lawn areas. I got a 4' x 24" (d) steel roller at TSC---it weighs 900 lbs when filled with water (5 tons if you fill it with mercury, but that's an environmental disaster waiting to happen). It has really made a difference in local dips and bumps. It's also definitely reduced some of the local "contour", but it's not created a pool table surface by any means. I think if I do it a couple times a year (once in spring, once in fall), I'll be able to maintain a pretty decent surface.

My guess would be that the mower would bounce less, but you'd still notice spots.

Jim,

Thanks. I don't have a problem with some spots. I'm just tired of the mower bouncing around, and from the tire ruts from mowing in the same direction. In most places, I alternate my mowing patterns to avoid that problem. But in some places, like around trees and a narrow opening I have from the front to the back yard, you can't change direction or even the width. So you get these permanent ruts. Those are what I'm really hoping can be improved by rolling.

Thanks. My neighbor has a small garden tractor I can borrow. I guess I'll rent a roller and have at it! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
