Hi I just purchased a new sa424 tlb this week and had a question. I have 6 hours on it and using the loader to dig into a pile of dirt or to peel up sod the tires have only spun once. I keep it in low and tried 4wd and just barely pushing the pedal and pushing it harder all it will do is sit there and whine or make worse noises. Driving a John Deere in the past it would spin the tires fairly easily once it couldn't dig anymore. Could the pressure be set to low? Sorry for the long winded question. Love the tractor was a great deal compared to orange or green near me. Thanks

Welcome to TBN.

If it has a low range, are you in it?

Yes it's in low. Tried in 4wd and 2wd. Not sure if it's normal for this tractor so wanted to ask.

Might be normal, but doesn't seem right. What is your throttle position when this happens? I think it should be at about 2500 rpm or more.

Don't push the pedal harder for more power. That makes the tractor want to go faster, like a higher gear in a car. Think of the foot pedal as an automatic transmission gear shift lever, and the hand throttle as the "gas pedal."

Start by taking much smaller bites. Your expectations and demands are exceeding your tractors capabilities.

If you are looking to do construction work and earth moving buy a construction TLB or skidsteer, not a garden tractor dressed up to look like a TLB. You are going to break that little tractor in a hurry and your great deal will cost you the price of two machines when you realize you have to buy a new one. Machine weight is your friend when earth moving and you lost the battle 6 hours ago.

Might be number thinks to consider...type tire thread surface of ground flat damp
I agree don't force it try break soil up with loader if you can.

Based on my experience (BX only, ever) and if you do have a hydro trans - yes, the early whine means 'not quite right - maybe'.
Do yourself a favor, figure out where the limit test point is, and get a gauge, correct quick connect and order variable parts for limit - maybe a selection of discs, washers or springs? Also, double check fluid level, may be in others' implements from dealer.
When I bumped mine up just to specs capabilities really improved. If you're methodical, easier than tying down for trip back...

Welcome to TBN.

Congrats on the new tractor!!!

I'd be very suspicious of a tractor that won't spin it's tires in low range/2wd.

Hopefully someone with the same tractor will chime in with their experiences.

Thanks for the reply's. I don't think I am over doing it trying to scrape up grass only digging an inch or two down. I know to lift and curl when taking bites out of a pile. The backhoe is on the back for weight. I did check the sight level on the rear its halfway up which should be good. It's a good machine and I know it's not a bulldozer or excavator I was just surprised it would just stop and not spin. I will look into getting a pressure gauge to plug in maybe its below spec on pressure. Maybe needs to breakin some more. I was wondering if other sa424 or 324 owners had similar experiences. Thanks for the welcome, browsed here a bit before I got the yanmar to see how others liked them. I was torn between the b2650 or the sa424 both seem to be great machines but came down to price and financing. Now I need to start getting all the goodies for it.

I have a 424.
It will spin.
For example a full box blade going uphill it will spin.

FEL digging in it will spin.

This is in low range. Hardly ever use high.

A backhoe puts a lot of weight for better traction...I would say that is why you can't break the tires loose. Plus maybe not enough horsepower.

I have 4 years and 475 hours on my 424. I don't have a hoe on mine but with a 6' tiller on the back it's a digging beast.

Sounds like you have experience so you know to take small level bites with the bucket but I don't have the issue with the whine that you are stating. I typically did in 4x4 for what it's worth.

My 424 tires don’t spin either, but mine are weighted so I don’t expect them to. You need to learn how to work that FEL a bit more. Taking too big a bite before curling back and lifting. You get 50% of your scoop on the initial push and the other 50% on the curl and lift. Try it.
