I am buying a new 5030 HSTC w/ LA853 loader. This was the easy decision. I can't decide which tires are best suited for myapplication. Are the R4's really lacking traction on loose stuff? And do they hold pretty well on a hillside while bushhogging??
The tractor will be used about 70% in the field but will also see some road time. Dealer says R4's will add about $400 to the deal. Is that about right?

The price add is consistent with what I have seen. As for the traction, I have noticed some slipping on wet/slick stuff (mainly when turning the front wheels sharply on wet grass in 4WD), but I do prefer the wider contact area of the tires over all. I feel better with them on a dry slope than with my old tractor and it's ag tires. I have been in some real super slick Houston clays with them and have had sufficient traction when in 4wd... I don't feel that it would be significantly better with ag tires.

The R-1 ag's are the ultimate in traction, except for hard packed soil or pavement.
