Tips for fluxcored?

I've found this also. Better penetration and a longer duty cycle. Not sure why though.
As I understand it, the wire is the same diameter, but it has fillers in it (the flux center) so there is less metal than a solid metal wire. As such, its like burning a smaller wire (perhaps like running 0.030 vs 0.035 or 0.045?).

The AWS study I found was dated in the mid-90s. It is quite likely things have improved since then. I won't suggest a nozzle is required. But if you got one...

For me (big subjective) it helps on a windy day, probably because I can angle it to protect. My glove would probably do the same. So to the OP...I de-emphasize my original advice on the nozzle. Whatever works for you.

But, don't run downhill on verticals you need to hold fast. Anyone wanna argue that one? :)

You can weld pretty heavy plate with .045 flux-core. There may be less wire but there is iron powder and other elements to make the weld stronger. Flux-core also gets deeper penetration unless you're in spray transfer at high amps with solid wire. The dual shield flux-core comes in as many variations as stick electrodes for just about any type of steel.
