oh, and watch those hills that have mounds that will pitch left or right. i have a few hills that have mounds that pitch you left or right as you ascend. the best advices is knowing the property...where is it wet, where does it pitch. the taller the grass the harder these things are to find...

This is good advice. I found a groundhog hole while traversing yesterday. Luckily it was towards the flat part and didn't pitch me enough to be an issue. Took the FEL and filled it in. Pretty sure it will be back when I go to mow again. Wish I would see him when I had the .22 handy...

I'm glad it worked out for you; sounds like you have it pretty well under control.

Pictures really don't demonstrate how steep something is, here are a couple from yesterday and it is quite a bit steeper than it looks.

That is how I mow it too. I can mow across with the M8540, but no way with the 5030. I don't like to run the 8540 with 10'6" mower between farms, so I just use the 5030.

We have a steeper one on the other end of the farm that our renters usually mow with a 7000 Series John Deere (picture attached), but one has been sick, so I mowed it the other day.

I mow steep hills pretty commonly and wait until the ground is dry and mow straight up and down. I both up and down and go to I lose traction, then just go forward back down. I now use a hydro and it is a lot easier but did it for years when I work at the school district with geared machines. Just take it slow and you will find a safe limit
Just don't try it wet!
