Timber Frame Build - Round 2

Jeremy if you use a wide knife plate similar to those in this picture or that Luke posted above (or those from ctpostandbeam) and orient the post such that the blade runs perpendicular to the arbor, then build the arbor such that it has a brace ( against side to side rotation you would have a solid structure - Simpson has these type plates on their UK website but not 8" or 10" blades - The timber frame folks had a person fabricate some similar to these to set my posts on (likely for yours as well) but they were smaller blades - I assume you can get them fabricated locally and ctpostandbeam state they will do custom work as well

A little bit of progress. I trenched power out to the wedding area. I managed to shred two drain tiles and the water line to my building in the process. The drain tile was on purpose, just didn't have time to dig and probe trying to find it. It was only about a foot under the surface so I figured that was easier to patch after the fact then try to find it and hand dig around and under. The water line not so much. A friend of mine was bragging about how well he could witch the water line location with a couple of pieces of metal rod. He was only off by 8 ft. Lol. Not a big deal though. I wanted a yard hydrant at the location I found it with the trencher. A few hours later the line was patched and hydrant installed. We also got the footing for the decorative stone columns dug and conduit for electrical laid. Poured footings yesterday. Block work for columns will start next Saturday.

Are you going to hollow out the posts to fit over your conduit?

The locations with conduit will be decorative stone columns. These will be done with concrete block then covered with stone veneer and flat capstone. Conduit is for an outlet at each along with access to run low voltage lighting or future wire runs if needed. Total of 6 going in.

OK, that sounds a lot easier!!! How many amps are you running out there? Will you have speaker wire too?

We are running a small sub-panel. Total or 3 circuits for the 6 columns. Another circuit for sound, and one for the wedding pergola and some lightning that will be done from cabeling between the trees. I'm using a total of 8 landscape speakers and two below ground subs.

Did you run water too? Drinking fountain or sprinklers? How far is it to a bathroom?

My water line is within 50 ft to the wedding area. I installed a yard hydrant a few days ago when I hit it with the trencher. I never thought about a drinking fountain. If we decide to tie into the water line for anything else its close and easy to do. The main building and restrooms are 300 ft from the outdoor area. We plan to have a golf cart available for anyone that needs assistance.

Worked on the patio over the weekend. The combination of walnut trees and squirrels were starting to take a toll on the patio. Walnut stains are some pretty nasty stuff to remove. After some trial and error I found a cleaner at Menards that worked pretty well for the walnut oils (ProCleanCL-5525) Most cleaners wouldn't even touch it. I used the concentrate and mixed close to the max recommendation. Still had some very slight staining after two applications but was able to clean it well enough to go ahead and seal to prevent new oils to absorbing in.

Here's what I was dealing with, mainly in two areas that the squirrels seemed to prefer.

Also picked up the concrete block for the columns. Work on these start Saturday. I'm hoping my stone is cut and ready for pickup Friday. All of the flats are done, just waiting on corners.
