After searching online for a few minutes about the question of hot or cold water freezing faster --- it looks like it can freeze faster but only under certain conditions. This site had an understandable explanation.

Does hot water feeeze faster than cold? ........

There are many other sites resulting from a google search. Most of them use the word "can" freeze faster, not "does" freeze faster. I was always a skeptic on that but looks like I was wwwwwwwrrrong again.

I guess I should not write up directions on how to install a filtered hot cocoa maker in the frig and send them attention to your wife and kids...

If your dishwasher is running while the fridge decides to make ice, the tubing in the fridge might blow apart when it softens. not sure how the fridges solenoid feels about hot water. if your fridges tubing is not pex beware, the soft clear vynl pipes get even softer.

From your link:

"Hot water that is near the boiling point evaporates a lot faster than cold water. As some of this water evaporates, there is less water left behind to freeze, so it won't take as long. But equally important, evaporation requires energy, which comes from the water. As the hot water is evaporating, it is cooling the water that's left behind."

Next time trust me, that's exactly what I posted.

Over a course of years I replaced all the plumbing in this old house. Big booboo was the wash sink in the basement. Fed from lines in the overhead. somehow I wound up with the hot/cold faucets reversed. Major project to replumb. Ah well, I will remember it. Nope. After almost burning myself twice on the setup I bit the bullet and crossed the lines below the ceiling level. Awful looking mess but at least the hot is on the left now.

ray66v - but can that evaporation happen when the water is enclosed in a pipe? Where does it evaporate to?

I don't know the answer :confused2:

I don't see how it's going to evaporate under pressure, inside a pipe.

As your link said, there are conditions required for this to work. It is not an absolute theory.

The original post was referencing making ice in a freezer. And apparently, it will work there.
