Where were all of you guys at about 7 years ago when I joined this site and got into an "argument" with guys about water for a rabbit when I told them that putting hot water into the bottle would cause it to freeze faster. Basically I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. For some reason I stuck around though.

Well if you ask around, they may tell you that I am so young that 7 years ago I was still in diapers.....

Or maybe not.....

I asked my friends wife, the chemistry teacher, why the hot water freezes faster.

She gave two reasons that came to mind.

1. The rapid evaporation of the hot water as it steams inside the very dry freezing conditions, causes evaporational cooling.

2. Because there is rapid evaporation, during the cooling period, there is less mass in the end to freeze.

Why I am neither a plumber or an electrician: I plumbed my ice maker too with the cheap plastic pipe kit you get at the local hardware store... bad move couldn't get the leaks stopped no matter what. Went the copper route as recommended in the fridge manual - worked great no problems... Now getting back to the "Why I am neither a plumber or an electrician" story. Several years ago I updated my stereo system: 10 speakers spread throughout the lower level, the system allows me to have the complete lower level on or kitchen area or back living/den area. My friend who is a stereo nut said you run the wires I will install. This was two weeks before xmas. We have baseboard hot water heating but mainly use a wood stove.

I install the speakers and start drilling holes in floor to run wires through basement to stereo - we have a 200 year old house, basement is rock wall unfinished. I get to the last spot which I drilled beside the fireplace. Long drill goes through no problem. I checked below before I drilled just to make sure...

I go to basement, locate edge of fireplace support, see saw dust, find a hole and decide to pass drill through one more time. Well, I hit a pex hot water tube and antifreeze is flowing all over me. I run to the furnace(know nothing about them!) turn the first valve off I could reach and managed to shut off the flow.

OK... Now what do I do? I call the furnace Co. in the am, explain my situation with an embarrassed
tone in my voice. They send their tech over at his convenience - which is OK by me.
His first question is: how did you know which valve to turn off... I say "I didn't" with stunned racoon look! He says you are lucky...

Now back to your regular programming...

I agree.. Besides ole Cyril probably does not need a hot cocoa dispenser on the frig door... : : laughing:

Hmmm....

...Good thing the kids don't spend their time on TBN. They like hot chocolate. They would want me to keep it that way and just buy lots of cocoa mix.

I'm assuming here that there are two or more valves. What would have happened if you turned of the wrong valve?

I would assume I would drain the whole system - boiler, expansion tank and 1st floor zone...
gallons of water and glycol.
