The reason I feel I need to move the water supply is because it also has cold??? filtered drinking water. That was how I discovered the issue. I was filling glasses of water to flush the system and get the air out as the directions called for. Took a little bit for it to sink in why I was getting glasses of hot water.

I guess I should have known that something was wrong when it went together without any leaks the first time. Now that I've replumbed it, I've been fighting leaks for the last 20 minutes. I feel better now.

Not sure how that computes.:confused2:

OK, I finally got all the leaks under the sink and behind the dishwasher beaten into submission.

eepete,
I put the standard shut off behind the fridge, but I connected the supply to the valve for the kitchen sink with a "T" fitting. That way I can just reach under the sink and turn off the valve if I need to work on something or have a leak.

I used to deliver and set up appliances. Refers with icemakers were always interesting to hook up because no 2 water supply's were the same. Many had no shut off valves. I did one delivery where the water line was sticking out of the floor. The owner crawls under the house and says to let him know when I get the line hooked up to the refer. I give him the word--there's a pause for about 10 seconds, and he starts screaming for the wife to shut off the water supply. I see her outside doing laps around the house yelling for her husband and looking for the main shutoff. She finally finds it behind some shrubs and kills all the water to the house. He crawls out looking like he just wallowed in a mud hole. I told them both they needed to rethink the water supply idea to their new refer. Mike.

I completely understand how that computes. I remember thinking just this weekend how it was too easy to pull new wire for the thermostat. Then I tried to start re-wiring the house, and you know how that went for me.

I get nervous when I don't run into problems. I've learned that there will be problems. If I don't find them now, they will show up later.

Hot water freezes faster because of temperature equalization. There is some law that will put you to sleep reading it.

But bottom line the hot water transfers the heat and chills faster..

I would change the line. If not the question is will the plumbing components in the frig handle the hot water? Or will they degrade?

You know how long it takes hot water to show up at the kitchen sink in most houses? And, now your tubing to the ice maker adds even more length to that path. So, unless you're using tons of ice (or had a hot water heater really close to the back of the fridge), I don't think hot water will actually make it to the ice maker. You probably got glasses of it the way you did just because you were repeatedly filling the glass while trying to purge.

I think it was a good idea to go back and put in the cold water line. Hot water has a funny taste to it in my opinion. Plus there's the additional problem of soft water if you have it.

I agree.. Besides ole Cyril probably does not need a hot cocoa dispenser on the frig door... : : laughing:

Where were all of you guys at about 7 years ago when I joined this site and got into an "argument" with guys about water for a rabbit when I told them that putting hot water into the bottle would cause it to freeze faster. Basically I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. For some reason I stuck around though.
