Getting back to the main subject, stealing people's packages off their porches, I'd rather not say on a public forum what I'd do to the perpetrator, but my package would be the LAST one they'd steal!
Our UPS and FedEx drivers say they have no problems around our area, in nearby city they have to lock their truck with each delivery in several sections of town.

I wonder what happened to the old criminal defense lawyer tactic to defend the shooter of a criminal that his client should be found not guilty because the deceased was such a bad character that “ he needed killing”.

I’ve actually seen that tactic successfully used.

Around here that wouldn't fly. The jury wouldn't be allowed to know the defendant's previous criminal history as it would be prejudicial. He could have have been convicted of other murders, but the jury is not allowed to know that.

You have that backwards. The defendant's criminal history isn't the issue, but the deceased's character is.

I'd love to see the court case.

Perhaps if the deceased had a bad habbit of threatening people and it was shown that the person could act on those threats, I could see perhaps someone getting away with killing them because they felt threatened themselves, but if people could get away with killing buttholes, I'm guessing two thirds of the worlds population could be in danger.

That is supposed to be universal (Federal) - not just state by state.

Generally it is, but this is not the case per TBS post (per TBS, it's about the history of the deceased and NOT the defendant in said murder trial).

You would be making a BIG (and expensive) mistake!
