It's stupid, but it's out there.

Funny thing is, the ONLY thing I've ever used paypal for is for related items off gunroker or armslist.

Have NO clue who this guy is.

You're good:thumbsup:

Kind of reminds me of an armslist scam I came across. Called the FFL who the seller told me they were using. Called the FFL and he told me he was going to call the police on them.

The only thing harder to believe than him asking,,,,,,is people actually sending him money.

He lives in a more upscale hood than I do for what you get on the asking price for what you get...
Never believe anything you read from an unknown person over the internet. That's the address someone gave you, not necessarily where that person lives and Fuddy just proved that point.

What always amazes me are the scams people dream up. Honest people's minds can't comprehend how to cheat others.
Months ago I sent a check to a HAMB member for a wiper mechanism for our '55 Chevy. He emailed and then called explaining his was a little different and returned my check. Handyman Tom from Richmond Va. Great guy!
Maybe we ought to start an HONEST people post, so others know who to trust!

I keep seeing ridiculous priced adds on CL (20K boat for 2.5K) and found that if you right click on the pic the pop up will give you the option to search google for the pic.
The scammer will put their email on the stolen pic.

no telling how many he sent this to. What's sad is, some probably sent him some money

So this "Jim Trout" is conducting a phishing exercise?

I'm not seeing the scam. It's a simple ask for money, no different from GoFundMe pages asking for money for their dogs surgery. Or a TV preacher asking for money to fund his new jet...

On a speciffic gun forum I frequent, I enquired about a rifle for sale and told the guy (living in Alaska) I would seriously consider buying it.

He ended up shipping me the rifle (to my FFL of course) for me to shoot over the weekend, and if I didn't like it, I could send it back to him. If I liked the rifle, I could pay him for it (this wasn't a cheap rifle).

Loved the rifle, shipped him a check priority mail the following Monday after shooting it the first weekend I got it.

Never in my life had I ever have that happen, nor do I believe it will ever happen again.

Sig - That is from "JimTimber" who started the thread about funding eye surgery for his dog. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/397582-anyone-know-funding-dog-surgeries.html

Somewhere in that thread you mentioned sending him a PM and he replied that he PM'd you back. I had also PM'd him about sending a few bucks to help with the dog. Discussed sending him money through PayPal and got a similar response about his past issues with them (which I understand, knowing what I know about PayPal). His fundraiser is through Facebook which I don't do - so he sent me his physical address - which he also sent to you.

It's not a scam, it's simply this - he's a disabled vet that's having some cash flow issues so he's swallowed his pride to ask for help to have what he considers a necessary surgery for his dog.

Do I know him personally? No. But he's also a very active and helpful participant in another tractor forum aimed at those of us who own green tractors. Am I sending him a few bucks? Yes.

I can be such an idiot sometimes.

I don’t do Facebook either.

Mods, if you could delete the attachment I posted or this thread for that matter due to personal info given here, would appreciate it.

Why not, it seems that these days every second person wants the public to 'Go Fund Me'.
From paying for their kids 'educational trips' to covering a pets $$$ elective operation.
Soon we'll se 'Go Fund Me' to pay property and income taxes if not annual vacations.

Don't get me wrong, I do support certain causes such as, Child wish foundation, Doctor's without borders.
One favorite locally is the annual Gazette Xmas Basket fund as it is well proven that EVERY cent goes to help needy.

My last on list is Red Cross their overhead and burorocty is horrendous. Shucks they have Presidents and VIP's in every state and all very well paid.

When actual scammers are allowed to operate with impunity we all have to be on our toes.
