Would this be a good first plasma cutter? It says it has a SL60 torch and the guy wants $500 for it. Are consumables readily available and relitivly inexpensive for it? Also what would minimum compressor size be for most cutting? What air dryer should be used? I know less than nothing about PCs so any help would be appreciated.

The manual says 75-PSI. The size of your compressor's tank is what helps, so the compressor doesn't run all the time. I run my Hypertherm 1250 on an air dryer all the time. I can cut over 250 feet before noticing any wear on the electrode or nozzle. http://victortechnologies.com/IM_Uploads/DocLib_4570_0-5180.pdf

I also highly recommend an air dryer for any decent sized shop compressed air system.
With the technical expertise of a friend I built my own set up with the use of a truck air dryer, auxiliary tank and misc parts years ago. It works extremely well and is trouble free. Not a practical route I would recommend to anyone.

It would have been cheaper and easier to purchase a new refrigerated unit when you factor in the time spent building it and the fact that the store bought unit can be easily transferred to another compressor if mine dies or if I purchase a different one.

Thank you sir for the manual. I wish I could afford a Hypertherm 45 let alone a 1250. Is this Cutskill 35A a good unit? Biggest I would need to cut would be half inch and only on rare occasions. I'm assuming that someone upgraded the torch at some point? The manual says it comes with an SL40.

You know I really don't know. I've never heard or read a bad word about Thermal Dynamic products. When I was shopping for a plasma cutter I almost bought a Thermal Dynamic, but come to find out at that time Thermal Dynamic plasma cutters would not work on CNC machines. Just my luck the very next year Thermal Dynamic came out with a computer compatible plasma cutter.
