The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

Thanks for answering Travis. Got real busy today, last day before more in climate weather coming in. Even managed to get in a motorcycle ride 40 mile to the north to check out another job for the wicked beast. The word is out up here. A guy called requesting the grapple to clean up his recently purchased property.

For the most part, my tractor's lifting limit is not an issue. With longer tines and a larger clam, the attachment would be able to grab more twiggy brush (because nobody bucks brush) as well as being able to carry more logs in one go which would make for fewer trips to my brush pile or to my trailers, increasing my productivity.

That said, my wicked root grapple is a great tool, I just wish it had longer tines as well as a larger opening.

Eric, If you had to do it again would you opt for the Mega Compact Utility Tractor Grapple which has a 42.5" wide opening and weights about 190 lbs more ?

Built for tractors weighting less than 7000 lbs with loader & loader capacities under 2500 lbs for the 55", for the 73" grapple up to 3000 lbs lift capacity.
Weighs 627 or 665 lbs.

Eric I am looking at all options, I was hoping to move some Stones also, Now looking at the W.R. Long Open Bottom Grapple 1 and the EA Wicked Root Grapple for Large Compact and Utility Tractors. I do appreciate you help and suggestions.

With your lift capacity, I️ would recommend sticking with the WR Long OBG 2 grapple. I️ have used and abused it for years now (although I️ don’t tirelessly post about how its best for everyone like some posters do with theirs.)
If I ever get the chance to upgrade to an M62 I’ll still stick with the OBG 2 grapple regardless of the 4K lb lift capacity. It’s built VERY well.

I don’t think there is any reason to go with a WR Long over a EA grapple though, just as i don’t think there is any reason to go with a EA grapple over a WR Long. I don’t see anything that makes one superior over another.

(However I realize that isn’t a justifiable reason)

Piston, suggest you update your iPhone operating system. They’ve fixed the annoying autocorrect that substitutes bizarre characters for I.

I bought an EA 73 Single lid Wicked Grapple for Utility Tractors, specifically for moving trimmed tree branches and brush. Itç—´ 42 1/2 jaw opening works very well for that purpose. Itç—´ been used on our LS XR4046HC 46 HP tractor. Weæ±*e in process of upgrading that Tractor to a new LS XR4155HC which has 55 HP.

IMHO this Grapple would serve you very well.

The only thing better than having a grapple........ is having two.
Yes I agree "The only thing better than having a grapple........ is having two" But I only need one for now, as I was considering going with a two lid

Did you get a single lid Wicked because you already had a two lid grapple as I was considering going with a two lid I you only had one grapple would it be a single or a double lid ?

Nope, I'd stick with the lighter weight one that I have which now features a wider opening. for stones, as in digging them out, a narrower grapple will work better but you want it wide enough so that you can see it as the front section is completely blind on tractor my size and so i'm mostly looking at the ends to know what my grapple is doing.

The edges of a 48” grapple can be easily seen just looking straight forwards through the FEL arms. Think of how you can see when using forks. Same size and view. No need to lean outboard to see grapple edge with a 48.

I decided on single lid for the smaller grapple because main use is limbs and brush. Two lids, on my HD grapple make it easier, for me, to pick up odd shaped objects.

Also, so I can argue on both sides of the one lid / two lid squabbles with the “experts”.

Good luck with your choice!

One grapple is far better than no grapple.

True with “your Tractor” but not necessarily true with all tractors. If you have a cab tractor, you cannot easily “lean outboard”.

Exactly. Which is why it is even more important with a cab tractor to be able to look directly ahead to see the edges of your grapple. Easy with a 48".
