That's definitely a test for your grapple! It demonstrates the well thought out design and materials selection!

That is one of the many reasons why I bought from Everything Attachments!

No doubt! There's not much concern with the lifting of material, but the twist and pushing power of a tracked machine far exceeds what a tractor can dish out.
The tree hanging out of the side of it like that is cringe worthy for sure!

Glad it survived to grapple many more days!! :D

Small hiccup. Made a burn pile out of several smaller piles of various downed limbs, on the way back to the barn, I noticed my lid won't close completely....

I've looked at every edge and weld and nothing seems askew.

Left side is straight.

Right side is straight.

Middle is straight and secure.

The back is straight, secure, and has all the proper clearances.

From my limited examination, I can find nothing bent or broken. It simply seems the cylinder simply isn't extending fully. I plan on pulling the pin out one of the end of the cylinder and seeing if it is what is limiting the lid tomorrow. Does anyone happen to know what the measurement from the pin centers are when the cylinder is fully extended/lid fully closed?

I recall people needing to adjust the cylinder sometimes. Just unscrew the shackle at the end till it closes the way you want. At least that's what I've read, I'm pretty sure.

No, if the grapple closed properly when new, adjustment of cylinder should not be needed? Look elsewhere.

Are you greasing pivot points on a regular basis?

Yep, just pull the pin, loosen the clamp and unscrew as needed.

It has happened before.

Why? If it worked originally, why would re-adjustment be needed?

I've put almost 30 hours on the tractor since getting the grapple, most of that doing simple mowing. I've made a couple burn piles and removed a few stones in that time, but I'd be shocked if I've opened and closed the lid more than 100 times. I greased it as soon as it came off the pallet, I've greased it three times since, and consider it to need grease again after today's work (which I'll be doing tomorrow morning and inspecting it further).

I agree that will likely be the "fix". But it concerns me that a threaded mounting point such as that may have "slipped" and messed up the threads. With it being pretty much new, I'd like to rule everything else out before messing with things.

Why? If it worked originally, why would re-adjustment be needed?

Agreed.

You might check your hydraulic fluid level?

What are you using for your 3rd function to open / close your grapple? WR Long kit?

Dead center, fully closed is 20 1/8". My guess is the clevis may have skipped a couple of threads. It has happened before, but not very often. I would extend the cylinder clevis and loctite the clevis keeper nut.
