I agree with the 48". When I load up to run up to my brothers place, I put the 48" grapple in the back of my PU
between the wheel wells. Fits perfectly. That way, I still can take the bucket, brush hog, and box blade with me
on the trailer. :thumbsup: Well, I should have said I did it that way previously. Now I have to figure out how to put my new EA 6ft HD BB on the trailer in place of my smaller one. Hmmm, Now I have to keep my brain from smoking from all the figurin' :laughing:

As of right now, we will only offer it with the skid-steer style quick attach however we will be adding the JD quick attach as an option in the next couple of weeks. We are not planning on offering any pin-on mounts in the future for these grapples but we do offer custom quick attach adapters to convert pin-on loaders to skid steer quick attach.

For anyone who hasn't converted their older loader to SSQA, it is well worth it, something you will not regret if you need versatility of attachments on your FEL.

Ted said the sharp tines are awesome for gripping. He didn't have any problems unloading the grapple and says there's no way he'd trade it for the smooth tip grapple he was previously using. For picking material up, the leading edge of the tips are rounded so they allow the larger logs/material to roll right over them.

Sounds good. I was thinking more of loose smaller debris. Logs and stumps I understand wouldn't be a problem. Maybe a person could fab some caps if that ever became a problem. Anyway, hurry out with those bad boys.

Whats the deal with North Carolina having so many companies manufacturing skid steer equipment? Including EA I can name six different ones that make grapples, with three in Denton alone. Does anyone else know of a higher concentration anywhere in the US?

Sounds like maybe one group that split up and went separate ways? But I have to say, some of the choices we are beginning to see at the prices are a real good value. The same goes for other SSQA implements.

Yeah they are too expensive if you ask me. I would think they would make them cheaper so they could sell more attachments which is where the real money is.

We have no connection whatsoever with those eastern NC companies. Ted's products here at EA are for the value minded but most likely not for the customer that puts more emphasis on price than overall quality. There are numerous ways of shaving the price but, in most cases, that unfortunately directly affects the finished product which is something that we're not interested in doing. Ted is all about shaving weight whenever possible if it makes an attachment more useful but he would much rather go around corners rather than cutting corners, figuratively speaking.

Nate just added the Wicked Root Grapple page on our website with prices. The page is far from complete but more pictures, information and a video should be added hopefully next week. I think Ted will design a lighter 48" version but I'm not sure how quick that will happen.

This was a 66" grapple, hoses, couplers and cylinders...complete....408 pounds.

I cant wait for the 48" version with a single 3 tine top grapple.

as a 48" version would be 27% smaller than a 66" version. and have 1/4 less tines for a top grapple, and only need one top cylinder, i would expect to see a 48" version for ~270 lbs which would put it on the order of my stock bucket meaning im not giving up any of my already limited lift capacity.

my guess on price. steel is priced per pound. ballpark $1.25 per pound, that puts the base 66" cost at like $510. figure $100 for cylinders and hoses, and $400 setup/labor,

this also means if he pursued a 48" version you could build it for 340 base, 50 for cylinder, 300 labor, = 700-800 which is the price you see people wanting to spend on a grapple.

dont need an entire laser cut press broke back plate to add cost and weight.

Im paying by the pound both in terms of $$ and in terms of lost lifting capacity!

Looking at the design, it would have been more beneficial to have the larger holes that are cut out of the tines near the front and not in the corner. Your highest moment (most stress) is that bottom corner, the least is near the front tips.

What is the opening dimension with the jaws open?
I can't tell from the pictures, but how are the hydraulic hoses routed?
I like that you didn't gusset the tines in front of the pipe, most people put large gussets there. A small gusset makes a big difference in strength!

I wondered the same thing when i got to looking at the pic i posted that shows like 5" of cylinder travel out when the jaw is closed. I cant imagine that the open dimension is much more than the back plate height 3' at best.

I dont know that i would be a big fan of the big curved jaw. seems you loose the ability to clamp a lot of stuff inside the jaw. granted you could squeeze it with the tip, but defiantly looks purpose made to handle 2' dia logs.

I guess it really never occured to me till i went looking that there are distinctly diffrent grapple designs.

Yes, I'm really liking the design, but it appears from the pictures that the upper tines line up exactly with - and close to a pinch - the lower tines. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to change the design. Move the uppers to one side or the other an inch, so that the upper tines could close on down to the cross pipe. Is there currently enough cylinder throw to get an extra six or eight inches of travel at the tine tips?
