This is why I am open minded when it comes to sizing a grapple and reluctant to give an "in stone" size recommendation.

I got my EA 60" Wicked Grapple today. Only had a couple of hours available to use it but I am in love. Did what used to take half a day in just an hour.

I grabbed my first load - this old dead pine, and moved pile after pile of brush that I had cut a few weeks ago. Didn't take a lot of pix, but have more to do tomorrow when I move the bigger stuff.

I'm almost speechless as I look at these poster worthy photos, but the words "WOW" and "Beautiful" do come to mind!!

The first thing I did with my grapple was terrorize my daughter with it. Low gear, engine revved, grapple raised and "chomping" as I chased her down the driveway. (She loved it!)

I'm a firm believer in covering one's tracks. When the ground dries up here I'll show why a wider grapple comes in handy for MY use.

Regarding how I managed to snag that stump, it was too big to swallow up with the grapple (couldn't get a good enough bite on it). I pushed it quite a ways (through a wet depression which would have sunk the tractor with that kind of weight on it) and then as I was flipping it it just kind of hooked on the lower tines and when I raised the grapple I'd snagged it; hefted it that way for perhaps 50' (again, keep in mind that I've got a lot of wet ground right now). I'm pretty impressed with the Kioti being able to carry the weight like that: and I didn't have anything on the rear (tires ballasted though)- I'm still trying to decide on a box blade (7' "EA" is at the top of my list of candidates- 1,500 lbs ought to allow me to see how much weight one of these grapples can really handle).

Just like when getting a new cat or dog at the house, make sure and introduce the implements to each other properly so that they get to know one another and work together effectively!

5 weeks out on the 72" grapple I just ordered

Kinda sucks to pay for something 5-6 weeks before you get it but what can ya do.

Frankly that is a lousy reason. Didn't Travis talk to you about options? Or was he just trying to sell the most expensive grapple? Sorry to be so snarky but frankly you deserve to have your dealer educate you rather than settle on a trivial rationale for grapple selection.

Obviously what grapple is "best" is determined by what the intended use is and what tractor/loader you have. The fact that some acquaintances have bought wide isn't really a very good rationale. Many people make the mistake of buying a grapple the same width as the tractor standard bucket without thinking the issue through.

A wide grapple has less digging capability than a narrower one. Simple physics. Concentration of force.

A wide grapple is heavier so leaves you with less net lift capacity. Again simple physics.

A wide grapple typically comes with two lids rather than one. More expensive and heavier still.

Grapples push aside brush the way a boat's prow pushes through water. You don't need to even cover your track width to drive a grapple through thick brush. I have a 48" light duty grapple on a Kioti DK40se and it works very efficiently in brush. I can lift stumps and rocks I couldn't if I had a heavier grapple. I can rip roots and dig rocks that would be hard to isolate with a wider grapple too.

A wide grapple is less maneuverable around trees etc. A wide grapple makes centering the load more critical to avoid unbalancing the tractor.

Lots of reasons to choose a narrower grapple for typical use on a CUT. Wide grapples were made mostly for skidsteers that do different tasks.

EA makes excellent grapples. I wish they put as much effort into matching potential purchasers with grapples that suit the CUT owners needs. Very few CUT owners are really going to benefit from a grapple wider than 50-60 inches with a single lid.

Ask the question of other grapple owners here:"How many owners of grapples 60" wide or smaller wish they'd bought a heavier, wider, more expensive grapple?"

Don't make the mistake of walking into a car dealership and asking the salesman which car you should buy. He'll over sell you every time.

Good luck. Not too late to change your order and save a bunch of bucks too.

If you look at the link that Xfaxman posted, both you and Travis suggested narrower grapples. He suggested a 60-inch and you suggested 54-inch.
It's going on a 60 horsepower tractor so I doubt that he's going to regret going with the 72 inch due to lack of power.

I was spraying clover in my lawn yesterday, but man, that red clover sure does look good in tractor pics!! :thumbsup:

Just out of curiousity, if a person bought a Wicked and then decided it was too wide,
couldn't they just torch off the outer tines?

For example, here is my 55 hp Mahindra with the 72" single lid.
The tines are about 9 inches apart.
If I torched off the outer two tines, I would then have a 54" grapple.

Torching off tines would be much easier than trying to add tines.

You would want to talk to Ted about the structural differences on the end tines. I have a 54 and yours would not look like mine if you torched the outside tines off. Mine is also version 2 of their grapple and yours is version 1, so that may have something to do with the differences as well...
