James- I almost hate to ask but where did you get the stars from? I have seen some made from cast iron at the flea market that were similar. The bed is outstanding.

He got those at King Archictectural Metals at thirty and Buckner in Dallas. http://www.kingmetals.com

They were probably made here in the Dallas area. We have a ton of aluminum casting shops.

There's little steel tabs cast into the aluminum. That's how they're attached to the steel bed by welding.

Harvey, thanks for answering Kenneth's questions for me. I have been away from the computer a few days. Hope you and Glenda have a good vacation.

Kenneth, thanks for the nice comments. It was a fun project. I want to start on some matching night stands some time this winter.

If you're in he hill country you need to google "balcones forge". It is the best group of blacksmiths in the whole world.

Blacksmithing is to iron what the Garden of Eden is to creationists. Few things are more rewarding, besides grand kids of course, than forming something useful or beautiful out of iron using nothing but a hammer and heat.

James will discover blacksmithing one of these days. It's a natural progression from creating with a welding machine to creating with fire and a hammer. He'll be a good one.
