I have a 2001 TC33D that I'm having some problems with.

The throttle lever is very loose. I feel almost no resistance when I move the lever. When I started the tractor, the engine raced up to about 2200-2300 RPMs. I immediately shut it down. It feels as though the throttle is stuck mostly open, and moving the lever back down is doing nothing. From the feel, it may have some motion in the last bit of travel (From the feel, if I were willing to gun the engine while cold, I could probably take it from the 22-2300 RPM it seems to be set at up to full throttle and back down again.)

Previously, I've had problems with the throttle not staying where I put it: I'll crank it up to 2500 RPM for driving down the road, and the lever will slide back down to 1500-1700 RPM or so. This seemed to me as though some sort of friction device in the throttle needed adjustment. I never opened it up to see what was going on, since the problem was so rare: it would happen repeatedly one day, the for the next several dozen times I used it it was OK, or it only slid back down 100 RPM or so.

So today I experienced the first problem (Throttle seems stuck on high). It happened to me years ago, but that was in very cold temperatures, and the issue stopped once the engine heat got back to the throttle control (or if I aimed a heat gun at that area.)

I'm trying to remove the blue top cover that holds the instrument panel to get a look at the throttle lever. I found all the bolts inside the engine compartment to release the leading edge of it. I can't find what is holding the back edge in place (the part by my knees when driving. Do I have to remove the two black panels on either side down below to access something there?

Also: any tips on what I might need to look at/adjust in the throttle control would be appreciated.

Have a TC 34, Similar model to yours. Have twice removed the dash panel and tighten the throttle lever to put more resistance on lever. 2 bolts on right panel under hood, could consider call it a firewall i guess and then 1 bolt in middle at your feet in center of operators platform (may be covered by rubber mat), both panels held together here by 1 bolt that joins panel together Be careful with bolts at firewall, nut embedded in plastic and don't like rough treatment. After spreading panels apart nut that holds throttle lever to mount can be accessed with wrench and tightened

Sounds like a slightly different set up to access than on the TC33.

One thing I don't understand on the throttle: I can understand how tightening the nut on the throttle lever would help the problem of the RPMs drifting down.

What I don't understand is the other problem: why do the RPMs stay high when I pull the lever back down to idle? This happens only in cold weather, if that sheds any light on things.

Not sure about your Tc33 but when mine lost tension the throttle moving up and down changes rpm very little, remember one time throttled up to around 2000 rpm and could not go back to idle, had to go to injector pump and retract cable. Seems like throttle and mounting bracket all moving as one unit when nut was loose instead of throttle pivoting on mounting bracket. Wish i could offer more assistance, The 2 times I have tightened mine has stopped the issue of lost motion on throttle cable

I would start by looking to see if the throttle linkage at the injection pump moves when you move the throttle.

These may help

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not had time to tear into it yet. Since the weather warmed up a bit, it has started working mostly normally again. I hope to get into it in the next few days.
