no, the basement is not heated, but it stays pretty warm down there anyway. I already have a check valve on the sump pump, so I am thinking if I use the 4" draintile, a breather probably isn't necessary. Maybe I am wrong.

hate to ask the obvious question...but does your pump ever run? They made me put one in on new construction in Wis even though everybody knew it would never run because of the soil (and perimeter drains inside and outside of the footings). Code here says septic loading is a no-no so I simply went up and out of the ring joist with a short stub (slight upward pitch so it drains back into the pit).

If yours runs a lot, I'd see if there isn't something you can do outside to minimize it (foundation grading or rain gutters). If hydraulic (e.g. floor seepage) I'd see about fixing that too. You can pump it out all you want but moisture is bad (black mold etc.).
