Tractor
AC 5015
I need another tractor because my AC 5015 is too small for the six acres I just bought. There are older Fords and MF for sale in my area in my price range under $5000 but I don't know what to look for. Any help would be appreciated in what to look for.

What exactly are you doing on that 6 acres? And what is the landscape like...........bare?, half wooded?........all wooded with a house?...........any outbuildings?

You need to tell us what an AC 5015 is, how much weight, how much HP.........so we know where you are coming from.

an AC 5015 is like a rider lawnmower sized SCUT

18hp, 15 ptohp.. about 1500# wet.

Depending ont he ops needs fo rthe 6ac. I'd say anything from a ford 6xx/8xx ( or rowcrop depending on the layout ).. up to a 2000 / 3000 ford.

again.. depending on needs..

getcha a good 600/601/800/801 4 or 5spd.. or 2000/4000 4 or 5spd, or 2000/3000 with a 4-6-8 spd

any of the above with PS will be nice.. but not a deal killer.

any of those will do a 5-6' rough mower.. obviously the larger engined ones are a lil more capable if using a 6' mower.. etc.

if going 65+.. get a diesel.. if 55-64.. get a gasser. JMHO

Soundguy has some very good advice, but could I ask what tractors you've seen for sale in your area?

There is a 4000 by me with a loader for 6500.00

if a 4 cyl.. that's pricey.. if a 3 cyl, and in good condition.. not a bad price.. assuming manual gear tranny and not powershifting SOS...

I know enought to direct you to ask RickB :)

I don't mess with the (new) industrials enough to TRY to tell you something.

I can read you specs off a sheet.. but that's not what ya want.. :)

Just thought to ask your opinion on it as there is one for sale here and looks very clean. Not that I need another Tractor.

Our first diesel Ford 3000 purchased the year they came out(mid 60's I think) was made in England and had no power steering. Great for straight rows when seeding row crop but you wouldn't want one if you were considering a loader. Our 600 series Ford and Fordson Dexta were fine without PS.

Cheers, Terry

The problem with the 8Ns is they lack live hydraulics....it's a pain, or a two-stage clutch. The PTO shaft has to be turning to raise the implement. I've gotten stuck where I had to disconnect the PTO shaft so that I could raise the implement without turning the blades. The MF 135 and 235s are good machines.
