Hi,
I need a Tractor now and would like some opinions. I have 6 acres of gentle sloping land. 70% is clear grass and some trees. 30% is medium brush/small trees. I want a machine to clear rest of brush, do some minor landscaping and mow it all.
After clearing the brush I would be using it for mowing 90% of the time.
I have looked at Kubota BX2230, Kioti CK20hst, Cub 5234d, NH TZ24da and Deere 2210. Best price is the Cub then NH, Deere, Kubota, Kioti. I would welcome any advise.
Thanks.

If you are planning on brush clearing you need to get something in the 25 hp range with a larger FEL. A better/cheaper option would be to get one of the tractors you mentioned (other simmilar hp tractors would be Mahindra 2015 and MF makes one too, can't remember number) and rent a heavy piece of equipment to 'get'er done'. The smaller tractors will do fine mowing and maintaining, clearing is more challenging.

The Kioti CK20 would be the most capable of the group. However, the CK20 is a full size compact tractor with the others in the group being sub-compact tractors. Not an apples to apples comparison.

Yes, sorry. The Kioti is a real tractor, it feels and looks like it to. It was not much more $ the the others is why I grouped it in.

Might want to shop around more, your Kubota dealer is really high.

I second what the other gentelmen said, you need more HP.

Charlie,
I checked with semi-local Mahindra dealer and he quoted $11,750 with 60 inch MMM. I will check it out sat. Does that seam like a good price to you?
Thanks

I bought a Mahindra 2015 HST in early March. Its very similar to the Kioti CK20. The price for the tractor w/loader was $11,400. I went with a rear finish mower instead of the mid-mount, but I want to say it would have been about 2 grand for the mid-mount. I think.

Whereabouts in NY are you located ?

How did you come to this conclusion or am I missing something?

I looked at Sub compacts before buying the 2210. Chose the JD in part because of the ease and speed with which the FEL, or MMM can be removed and mounted but mainly the 210 loader has superior lift capacity to the BX and other SCUT's. I had read on the TBN forum that BX's have more ponies than bite, not much traction. I am delighted that my 2210 with HDAP tires from an X-series deere never runs out of traction, it seems Horsepower limited because of the hydrostat. I'm pulling a 72" blade and removing 15 foot trees with this thing. With the 62" mower I have mowed my 3.5 acres in just over an hour.

I bought mine from a dealer in Oneonta. My guess is that he's the semi-local dealer you referred to ? He beat the pants off the dealer closer to me, price-wise.

The Massey sub-cut is the GC2300. The specs can be accessed from the home page of this very website. You might want to consider it as well.

I just bought a Massey sub-cut and have about 12 hours on it I have mowed Tilled with a 42" tiller moved rocks and spread 15 yrds of top soil. The little cg2300 has done everything I have asked it to do I am delighted with this machine. I looked really hard at the Kioti too a really nice machine I just wanted a little lighter weight machine for mowing my major5 task.

Just my 2 bits, but I totally agree with some of the previous posts about the tractor size versus jobs you want to do.

If you want a Sub-CUT then I think you may find that you would be wise to rent a bigger piece of equipment for a day, do the clearing, and then use the Sub-CUT for the maintaining work. The little Sub-CUTs are very cabable little machines but they are small and take small bites out of big jobs, consequently a job that would take a day with a larger unit could take a week with a Sub-CUT. All that said, a Sub-CUT is a fine choice.

I would opt for a small-frame CUT. Something one class up from what you are looking at, with engine horsepower in the 23 to 26 hp range. There are lots of good units out there that are plenty small enough to use as mowing tractors, but still just big enough to use for some of the tractoring jobs. I have a NH TC24D that would be about right, but look at the Cub 7000 series and the Kubota B7510 or the B7610 as well. Just about every manufacturer makes a machine in this size class.

Again, just my 2-bits, I would ONLY consider a tractor with a hydrostatic transmission unless you grew up with a gear tractor.

And as far as PRICE goes I think it is a big concern, but it should not be your MAJOR concern. If I was you (or if I was spending your money) I would look at the total cost of ownership, and that would include my time running back to the dealer for support, so I want a dealer who is reasonably close to me, and I want a dealer with a large customer base who will then have a large PARTS DEPARTMENT and a large and well established SERVICE DEPT that has a good reputation. And I want a dealer who will treat me well when I walk in the door.

Another big deal for me is a tractor that FITS ME WELL; this is very individual and some who love the fit of their JD will hate the way controls on the Kioti is laid out or visa-versa. Every tractor is a bit different, some are better for me, some are better for you. Only you should be the jugde of the best layout and fit for you.
