It's too bad that the "magical" height for the ROPS is just a bit too high for standard garage doors

All you need is an 8' door for a subcompact. That is not as common, but it is still a standard residential door.

The real problem is, your home builders only put those wimpy 7' doors in your garages. :D

Yup, mine fits though the 8' door in the big garage, but have to fold it down to keep it in the house garage.

My ROPS is up anytime I use it. The trees are limbed for the most part, but it has never caused any trouble for me. If I ever flop it over, I'm guessing I'll be glad it's there.

As others have said, you'd smack your mellon on a shorter ROPS when using the BH. I really want no parts of swapping the bars for different applications. Removing the FEL & BH is annoying enough.

I'm another that had the door to fit the tractor (8' door) the garage to fit the door (10 foot walls) and the garage to fit the stuff but a year later the stuff exceeds the garage space but the tractor still clears the door.

I think it's just a matter of getting used to it, like going from a car with small mirrors to a truck with large mirrors that stick out like wings.

I seem to recall driving a Uhaul truck around once when I was 20 and took it through a low underpass. Being young and stupid, I had passengers in the van of the truck, hanging out the back like the beginning of Beverly Hills Cop or something. They informed me that I had about 2" of clearance after we made it through. Since I was so not used to paying attention to clearance signs, I almost caused a serious problem. Fortunately, that close call was enough to stick in my mind for the past 13 years since then, and it's even applied to tractoring around with my ROPS up.

just an opinion (not trying to be a smartazz) but maybe a smaller lawn mower is the answer? i.e., a machine made more for working in close quarters to immovable objects?

I mow a rather large yard with many trees and my riding mower is much more adept at manuvering around trees, shrubs etc. than my tractor

A mower is a mower, easy to remember;
MOWER, change the first letter to one letter before that in the alphabet.

Tractors are,,,,,, err, umm, those tall tippy things that pull and push and turn soil and move dirt and snow and don't fit well on suburban lots or even rural landscapes with LOW(remember; MOW/LOW) hanging branches.
The smallest ones get adapted to become Swiss army knives, with backhoes about comparable to a fold out tool on a real Swiss army knife.
Despite this they still don't fit in upright closets from Ikea.
Driveway ornaments are for neighbor impression, etc.
Wax 'em well; chrome, shiny things, etc.

PS Off-set flail "mowers", but that is a whole 'nother subject.

It's like riding a motorcycle with or without a helmet ... Only you can make that choice.

TBN is a Family Friendly Site and profanity is not allowed, whether it's;

  • Outright
  • Abbreviated
  • Masked

Many people find it offensive and juvenile, and it violates the TBN TOS.
