studded snow tires

I personally use four Blizzak studless snowtires with the special rubber compounds on both my vehicles with dedicated wheels. Excellent traction with low noise.

That said ........... The county sheriff's department has always used four studded snowtires on every patrol unit through the winter and before they came up with the special compound snows ...... so did I.

I used to have studded tires on my car due to rear wheel drive and v8. Back then all you needed was studded rears. now we have FWD cars, and all season tires. all seasoin works ok if the roads are plowed. If you drive the back roads thgat doesnt get plowed often in snow belt area in NYS, have gravel driveway, I wouldnt hesistant getting studded tires. Just swap them back to all season before april. I never had problems with studded tires other then a few fell out and worn down after couple winters.

I've used studded tires a fair bit. They are great on ice or hard-packed snow, but make little difference in deep snow or mud. I've never noticed a difference in stopping distances on dry pavement.

The only time I've ever seen a stud come out was when doing a "brakie" and really smoking the tires. That's not what anybody would consider normal driving conditions though.

Blizzacks are 10x better than studs, and I have used both.

That could well be, Sackett. I've heard very good things about those tires, although I've never used them.

The original poster isn't being offered a set of Blizzaks though.
