Still deciding on size, looking at L series

There are a number of Bxx30 owners here running 5' hogs. I have also heard a few of them say it does "okay" but that they would probably be better off running it with a heavier tractor. So in the spirit of what crbr said, it's proportionally a similar situation as trying to run a 6' with a small L.

If you go this way, I would suggest a light-duty 5-footer. The less weight you hang off the rear, the less trouble you'll have controlling it.

At least the Bxx30's have position control. Not sure about that older L2900. In the past some of the basic L models have been QIV.
But a B series is even less help to you for your bales.

Look at the specs.... (Univ of GA? :D )

You're now talking 19 PTO HP to turn a 60" machine. You are proportionally going in the same direction.

Since you ask again, it's still no in my opinion. :)

Some folks said a 5' would be ok w/ the larger B series on my previous posts, that's why I was wondering.....I guess it's a matter of opinion, or it really needs to be a 3030, 7800, 3200, 2910......yes Univ of Ga fan....let the red panties fly

The "fan" part explains it all... :D :D

You're a good sport, regardless.....

The problem with brush hogs or any other rotary is the limited amount of cutting surface available to use.

a flail mower with any width has more slicing cutting edge length in total than the two blades of a small rotary mower and wil cut better with more knives as more knives are cutting smaller pieces all at once with the full width of the mower while it is in motion.

If you bought a 4 foot Caroni 88 knives and f rotor with the hydraulic side shift you would have plenty of power and plenty of speed to cut brush and grass with the same mower and mow right to the ground.

I considered a flail mower, they have a lot going for them. However, they cost about twice a similarly sized brush hog and the 5 footer I was looking at was rated at 3/4 inch diameter brush and the Woods medium duty I bought is rated at 1.5 inch (and I have been cutting up 2 inch+ vine).

On the other hand, the offsetting capability of some of these flail mowers is awesome for mowing along a fence or other obstacles.

In my research I read that the flail mowers do require quite a bit more maintenance and that they will break blades at least once every season according to some of the flail mower reviews.

I'm looking at a B2920 (and a BX2660; haven't yet decided). Dealer says B2920 will run a 5' bush hog, but actually recommends 4' bush hog for better control and performance. He recommends other 5' implements, but not a bush hog or tiller that large. Like others have said, he agrees that 5' may try to drive the tractor too much.

I have 4' implements for my B2620, and am quite satisfied that they are well matched for this size tractor. The little bit of extra hp is not going to make up for tractor weight, or size when we are talking about things like the rotary cutter. The only places I can see it making a difference is in running a chipper, or something like that. 5' cutters can push around larger tractors than Kubota's small B's, and are much better matched for the L's, or something like the Massey 1529 my neighbor just bought. In my opinion, it seems that too many folks buy a tractor they like the size, and feel of, and then try to run implements that are too large on them. Choose the size implements you want to use, or need to use for your jobs, and then buy the right tractor to run them.

I ran a 42" landpride on my B3030 & that thing cut great. Im now running a 60" landpride on my GL3540 & this set up cuts great as well! Matching a rotary cutter to a machine correctly is important if you wish to operate safely & efficiently!

But Chuck, that would make entirely too much sense! :D

Careful now, with those words... the Earth might just tilt off its axis...

I have a l4400HST and run a 6 foot rotary cutter. It seems to be a good fit. I would like to try a 8 footer to see how it would it, though my gut says it would be a bit much. The L4400 has 37 PTO HP. It would handle the smaller round bales 600-800# bot the larger 1000# + bales would be risky.
I looked at the L3700SU this evening and it was quite a bit beefier built than the B series.
