There are a number of Bxx30 owners here running 5' hogs. I have also heard a few of them say it does "okay" but that they would probably be better off running it with a heavier tractor. So in the spirit of what crbr said, it's proportionally a similar situation as trying to run a 6' with a small L.
If you go this way, I would suggest a light-duty 5-footer. The less weight you hang off the rear, the less trouble you'll have controlling it.
At least the Bxx30's have position control. Not sure about that older L2900. In the past some of the basic L models have been QIV.
But a B series is even less help to you for your bales.
