Okay y'all have me convinced my dollar will go farther buying a used higher end lawn tractor than a new through away from the box stores, correct?

I have been searching and, call me crazy but, the front mount mowers appeal to me. They seem to a hybrid between a zero turn and a traditional lawn tractor.

I have found a Stiga within reasonable driving distance and have made contact with the seller. I am intrigued to say the least. What scares me though is the relative rarity of the Stiga brand. I worry about parts, longevity, an resale.

Does anyone have any experience with these machines? Any of you guys in Canada eh, run across them? I am looking for the good, the bad, and the realistic.

Thanks, as always.

Stiga machines seem quite well made. Husquvarna's rider is very similar (Maybe exactly the same) as the Stiga machines.

Your right, you dont see many of them here, but i think its due to price. Husky's 4x4 version was something like 7k in the last promotion. IF they are the same then parts availability shouldnt be a problem as Husky has pretty wide dealer coverage.

I gave strong thought to the Husky machine before i ended up with my deere. In alot of ways front mount with 4x4 and artic steering might have served me better, but its too late now:D

Scooby,

Thanks for the thought. I was wondering that myself. Any idea on how cross reference the Husky to the Stiga? I would feel much better about purchasing the Stiga if I knew this pearl of info.

Any guys from the UK who might have an info?

No idea on the xref besides maybe calling a stiga dealer or searching other forums.

I think the main difference is Stiga is targeted to municapalities as opposed to individuals? could be wrong. Sorry i cant be much help.

I would not mind to buy the Stiga. The Stiga-Villa is highly recommended here in Europe (tehy are made in Sweden, same as Husky), Infact they are expensive. We have a Stiga Garden 1072, a ride on in use, which I have bought used last Year and Iエm very satisfied with it..ok...here at home I use a Sabo or a Toro walkbehind, but their are places which are too large for the WB and too small for the 20 hp Diesel with slasher.

So, the engines are B&S, maybe Honda also the Tranny is american built, Tecumseh or Pearless, so parts should not be a prob. Off course I am not sure, what size of belts they use, metic or inch, but that should be a minor prob.

Thanks for the response. The research I have done I came up with the same conclusion you said about the motors and transmissions.

Do you know how they hold up? Are they a machine that will last 5 years and throw away? or will they last 20 years?

Donエt know, how it is overthere, but here in Europe not a lot people will throw away a rideon after 5 years. They are very expensive and エnoone can afford to do so.

We own the Stiga garden, a MF 20/12 and a Viking GT 10 S, which is build at AYP in USA, all of them older then 10 years.

So, with a bit care the Stiga should last a long time.

Never have owned one, but people who own do swear on them.

The onliest problem I see is the steering..guess it is done by wires.
