I have a 1984 1310, manual steering with a loader, that is too big for the tractor. Well, the steering box is severely worn and upon inspection there is no lower bearing or bushing for the sector shaft. The shaft rides on the case itself. Is there a way to rebuild the box? A better solution would to go full hydraulic, but the steering valves are very expensive. I am looking for advice and if anybody has solved this situation. Thank you.

If the shaft has worn into the box you could have a bushing or flat washer made to replace the worn metal. A machine shop should be able to make up the part fairly cheaply.

Another option would be to see if you can find a used steering box.

I was in a similar position with a 1210 some time back. It's a long story, but in the end I replaced the entire box with a new aftermarket unit which solved the problem. If you're interested in the details, you can send a P.M. and I can supply more details on what the process entailed.
