In my barn thread I mentioned a bridge build and people wanted me to post when I was building it.

Todays the day!!!

Approx 20’ span
Approx 7-8’ wide
2x6 tubes for the stringers
A center 2x6 tube under the stringers
3x3 tubes for cross members

6x6 treated timbers for the “foundations” on each end.

End goal is to drive a vehicle across!

They were free.
A manufacturer of a high speed door we install uses them as a cradle for their doors
I have over 100’ of tube in various lengths in a rack in my barn.
WOW! Free, new(ish) steel tubing? Good for you!

subscribed as well looking forward to see the progress...

Is there a big flow fluctuation in this stream ? One thing to keep in mind is the vegetation always die under bridges, then the water erode the bank below the abutments since there is no vegetation to hold the soil together.

It gets going fairly well when it rains more than a couple inches.
It’s run off from a field next to me.
I’ve seen it completely dry before

My preference would be for a concrete foundation vs wood.
I agree.
Budget doesn’t allow for it currently…..so far I’ve got $180 in the 6x6.
When they pour the slab for the new barn I may order an extra yard or 2 and fill around the beams

Progress so far.
Taking a break for some ice water and swapping of laundry.

This is the center stringer.
Gonna weld up the outside stringers after my break
Gonna be tricky getting the other 6x6 across the creek
We have a crossing I can drive my tractor across….1.5” of rain last night made it really slimy!

Good looking stick welds. I didn't use one enough to get good at stick welding. After I bought a good MIG, I never went back.
I’ve got a wire feed
For a project like this it’s really slow.

Stringers complete!!!

2x4 is just to show how the cross tubes will go.
They will be 3x3x3/16..8’ long 0CCBB721-3FE7-46F6-A08F-7A6CFA65E63D.jpeg751BA632-190B-4065-9959-ECD538656F0B.jpeg

That’s about it for today!
Level-ish
Square-within 3/4”-hard to square big things solo
I’ve got 6 more cross pieces to cut/notch/weld

Then the deck……might do steel tubes flat where the tractor/truck drive and than wood for the rest 8E80F362-3B96-4636-84C1-F32D1797218A.jpeg5C8884E5-54E3-432E-B8D7-A22B94E6AE40.jpeg354E80E8-915E-4413-AF1A-405B83C4BE18.jpeg1A369EB6-C2BD-41FE-A6D6-5F40EFBAA21D.jpeg
