Starter solenoid

/ Starter solenoid #21
You can troubleshoot it in 5 minutes.
1) voltmeter across battery. Voltage is ______
2) now while cranking, voltage is ________
3) meter leads black negative on starter case, red positive on large starter lug. Voltage is _______.
#2 should equal #3 measurement...within 0.1 volts (close). If not troubleshoot: Meter black negative on battery negative, meter red + on starter case & crank on it. Should be zero volts. If not, bad cable or bad ground.
Same with positive side. Meter black negative on battery negative and work back from starter. Cranking voltage should be same on both sides of solenoid. If not...replace.

/ Starter solenoid #22
My ford 1910 like many old tractors turns over rather slowly when cranking. So I was wondering if I replaced the solenoid if it would make it any faster or does the whole starter need to be replaced? Also if a solenoid would make a difference what size and type would I need? Thanks for any help.
Have your battery cables checked. It is amazing how many times I have found bad battery cables causing these kinds of problems, even new ones.

If #2 doesn't equal #3 above, troubleshooting will tell if bad connection, solenoid, cable.
