Last winter my aquashade bottle froze and leaked onto my unsealed cement barn floor. I have been using kitty litter to try to absorb it , but it seems there is no end in sight. Any suggestions? (Beyond don't wear the white suit in the barn)Thanks in advance!

Tom.

Whooa, how big a bottle?/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif This is my best guess. Aquashade can be oxidized by hypochlorous acid (household bleach is a 5% solution of hypochlorous acid). I would start slow and check results since I have never done this.

You might consider spilling another bottle over the rest of the floor, maybe you could start a craze for blue concrete finishes./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I know what "aqua" is and I know what "shade" is, but what's "aquashade"?

Bird,
Aquashade is a blend of blue and yellow dyes specifically designed to screen or shade portions of the sunlight spectrum (red-orange and blue-violet) required by underwater aquatic plant and algae growth. This action effectively inhibits photo-synthesis in young, bottom growth. It is also used in swimming pools to give the aqua tint to the water. Aquashade is a registered trade name.

Thanks for the information, Twinkle Toes. I don't recall ever hearing of it before. I take it from this thread that is must be a water soluble dye in its liquid form, but once dried on concrete, doesn't wash out./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

The problem with the spill is not aesthetic - the stuff gets tracked around and could be a disaster if it ever got into my light carpeting in the house. I like the idea of the bleach. I have about a one square foot area to treat.

Thanks for any additional suggestions.

Just a follow up to let all know that bleach works like crazy on spilled aquashade. I poured it on full strength and amazingly it completely eliminated the stain!

Now I knew what Aquashade was, but I didn't know about the bleach trick. Thanks Twinkle Toes for the tip and thanks to Tom for being the brave lab rat. I'll likely need to use that info in the near future in my line of work.
