I let an older gentleman run his coon dog on my place and last Sunday he calls me up and tells me he has stumbled on to two different vehicles back at the end of the field in the last week. You have to come up our driveway to the top of the hill and there it y's off, left towards the house and right past the barn and towards the fields. Problem is, we have had a very wet year and the corn is 8' tall and can barely even see the barn from the house. Once they make the turn you can't tell anyone is back there. The barn is about 150 yards away. So here's the scoop,,, do any of you know of a security system that works off of a remote that I could set up down the hill on the driveway that would set off an alarm in the house when someone is coming up the drive? The signal would have to travel about 200-250 yards to reach the house. I heard someone makes one that works off of magnetism so the deer don't trip it. Any suggestions are more than welcomed.
P.S. I also have a 1" x 12" x 12" plate ready to have spikes welded to it. Last resort though. Thanks again. RRM

Interesting situation. You want them gone but not pissed off. I'd hold off on the spikes as a last resort. Time to get creative and out smart these trespassers. How about a trail camera to get pics of who is doing this and giving the pics to the police.

Probably the best advice. Start small before things get out of hand.

Don't have your answer but do not boobie trap your property with spikes/etc. Someone could even step on it and you will have bigger headaches. Is your land posted "NO TRESPASSING" ! . Someone here will post back with a legal solutuion and I have a feeling your gonna catch-them in the act !

A closed gate (just hitched) would be my first step. The folks with any kind of conscience will respect it. A chain with a lock & signs would be the second step. Then spikes. This along with the game camera.

How about a couple of those to control who runs on your road?
Pretty simple design that should be possible to make if you do not want to buy them.

Good advice given,Keep Out signs so they can't miss it maybe cable across road before enter field that's well mark.

I would also talk walk about to see what they might be doing.

This time of year they might be harvesting.

That's what I was thinking... I would go back in the daylight or early morning and track them to where they went... you may be in the hemp business and not even know it.

Contact the local law enforcement. A report will be documented. Taking the law into your own hands has down steam issues.....I'm not a lawyer. Just sleep with one.....

just 2 posts driven into the ground on each side ... pole between them ... only 1 end free with a red flag on the very top ( think rail road crossing ) ... then place a cheap boat air horn under the swivel end ( when the pole is lifted, the butt hits the air horn and alerts you and you see the red flag ) ... and trail cams to catch the rear plate # and possibly the actual driver....

Reporting it is a good idea! Throwing up a gate across the road will also work to help deter the problem.
The trail cam is a great idea but try and place it at license plate height and semi parallel to the road so it can shoot the person lic. plate as the enter (or leave) - this will help far more than a general side photo of a truck or a photo of an unknown person. This gives the police a good starting point to track down the person.
Good luck

I'd put up a gate and no-tresspassing signs, and notify local law enforcement. They may be able to pass by periodically.

Gates, signs and well placed game camera. Turn the photos over to law enforcement.

Same here -
But if you put out big no trespassing/warning signs you could probably put out the spikes. Which will be stolen and sold for scrap.

Even with signs, it is illegal to booby trap your own property. Don't do it.

Here in NC you can place No Trespassing signs on your property. They need to be located so that they are visible in all directions. For anyone to be on your property legally they must have a signed slip of paper with your permission and signature. Once you get the signs in place just call your local game warden. He will take care of the trespassers.

I just put a cable across my lower drive with a No trespassing sign in the middle. It is locked on one side with a padlock, but the other side just unclips if you know what to look for. Really stopped people going back. There are pretty good systems that are economical.

Here is one that has a variety of sensors, even an optional buried pressure sensor for detection. It can also trigger an alarm. It works on VHF so a pretty good range. Neighbor uses his at 1/4 mile with no issues.
