Hi!

Does anyone have any ideas for a slide in the FEL type snowplow design?? For a BX 24.

I would like to leave the FEL on to stack snow, but the 4 foot wide bucket is too small to plow with, it would just fill up to fast. I was thinking about a 60" atv plow??

Thanks.

Yeah, I know this thread stopped about a month ago, but I came up with an idea. Connect a 2" receiver to the front of the tractor "bumper plate" (I don't know the technical term).

Agricover.com: Truck Bed Covers and Caps - Pickup Tonneau Covers

This company makes snowplows that connect to the 2" receiver. This way you can leave the fel on, just raise it slightly out of the way. Put the snowplow on and plow. Then take the snowplow back off.

It sounds easy and practical. Anybody have any thoughts on the idea? Does someone sell or make a 2" receiver to bolt on to the front of a bx?

j,

Funny you mention a visit to Vermont..... I did two weeks of winter remotes in the White Mts. in 1973. (Army Security Agency) Beautiful place!

bigdad,
You need to visit northern VT then to experience "Verbonics" in all its glory! :)

Not really. I mean more like the snowplow connects to the front bumper of the tractor, not the FEL.

With the plow on the front bumper area, and especially if it is tilted, the FEL must remain raised at all times or it will hit the plow. You will have to remove the plow to use the FEL.

By attaching the plow to the FEL, I can raise the blade as needed to stack snow higher than any normal plow setup could.
Bumper-style receiver hitch = $35.00
Hitch plug installed when using the FEL without the plow.

This has been an ldeal setup for me maintaining about a half mile of access road and 2 driveways.

Does is seem to put undo stress on the bottom part of your bucket at all?

bend the metal, etc?

Did you reinforce?

I would like a way to remotely angle my little rinky dink setup.. It just like the mounting out on the edges of the bucket....

I do like it though...

I added 1/4 inch steel plate to the bottom of the bucket around the bolt area and use grade 8 bolts.

I have pushed as much snow as traction would allow over 3 seasons and the bucket is perfect.

Side benefits include the ability to remove the receiver hitch in the summer and to use it as a tow point for boats around the yard.

I have been using my 5 foot FEL bucket to plow snow for the past 6 years without problems. Once the bucket fills up, you begin pushing snow. At that point, I either continue pushing the snow off the driveway, or push it to a place where I can use the bucket to add it to a pile of snow. Yes, it takes longer to clear an area, kinda like walking back and forth with a pusher snow shovel, but it still beats doing it by hand. :)

I thought about using my back blade and about getting a snow plow for the front. With either solution, you're still just pushing the snow. Yes, if you can angle the blade, you gain some capability, but you're still just pushing snow and with the front mounted blade, you've lost the ability to lift and dump the snow.

IMO, the front mounted blades add more cost than they add capablility.
Unless u put the blade on another tractor.

You may want to look into a BoDozer six-way blade made by Borgford Manufacturing. I'm not sure if they make a smaller-sized blade for a BX. With all the BX owners, however, it seems that you may be able to talk them into fabricating a smaller blade for the market.

Six-way Blade

BoDozer blades are not cheap. But they'll easily last the lifetime of your tractor with minimal maintenance.

I solved this problem with my BX23 by buying a hydraulic lift and angle front blade with a BX1500 attached to it.

Seymourbota- who manufactures the snow plow you have and what is the cost? Thanks.

I like the paynesforks model asylum posted. I am facing the same issue with mine but I am taking the plunge and going to town with a plasma cutter and welder to turn my FEL bucket into a quick release bucket. Once completed, the next two projects are to fabricate a set of forks and customize a 6.5 meyer plow to fit the new quick connect setup.

For the plow, I am him-hawing back and forth whether or not I should cut down the plow so it is only 5 or 5.5 ft wide instead of 6.5. I would not be able to plow effectively with the full width with deeper snow, but in IN we only get one or two big snows a year and if I plowed multiple times, the extra width would help get things done faster for smaller storms.

For the forks, I hope to save a bunch of weight and thereby increase the forks lifting capacity if I don't have to lift the bucket as well as the forks.
I had this same idea some sort of quick attach / detach system for my BX 1500. I don't have a welder just yet but, I'd be very interested in seeing how this turns out. I would like to adapt a set of forks for my tractor without the weight of the bucket loading it down, as in clamp on style. I hope we get to see some pictures when this is done...

FWIW, Curtis is coming out with a plow blade that will attach directly to the loader arms of a BX. It's suppose to go on sale in early December. I'm guessing it won't be cheap.
The problem with this deal is with my luck I would always have the wrong thing on the loader arms.
I like my idea better .
A FEL on my BX23 and A front blade on my BX1500-Never the problem of the wrong implement attached.

If I were to do my setup again, I wouldn't put an angle on the wooden "blade". Just straight. Normally I pull the snow away from the garages/outbuildings with an RB angled then just use the FEL pusher to do LIGHT cleanup of what's left. My kids call it Dad's "Snow-Dozer".

I used wood to keep it light, cheap and also to minimze surface abrasion. This will be the third winter, hopefully with no problems. The stuborn stuff gets the RB.

THat looks like a great idea!! WOULD a frozen icey banking break it or do you use float on the stick?

plow
6.5 is a foot and a half 2 wide which is way over Kubotas recommended Max. of 5.0.
Cut it down.
If you wanted to go a little wider you might go 5.5 .
I would not go any wider than that.
Forks
I would just get a set of paynes forks.
I very seldom run across something The BX23 won't lift.
To me it would not be worth the effort to rig up the bucket for removal to install forks on the loader arms.
It's much more handy to install/remove clamp on forks than it is to keep switching back and forth between forks and bucket on the loader arms. In my case going to loader forks is to much added inconvenience for little or no extra gain.

I don't have an issue of bucket weight with my clamp ons for the BX23.
I would not trade the handy on off feature of the clamp ons for the inconvenience of having to always swap bucket and forks back and forth.

1*As for the PaynesForks, at least the price includes shipping!
2*I've been budgeting $1000 for a used Kubota plow kit for my BX1500 if one came along. Rare indeed.
!
1*My Paynes bucket forks for my BX23 are great.:)
What I'd like is a set of lite duty forks that could be easly attached to the front blade of my 2003 BX1500.
I've seen plenty of bucket forks but no such thing as blade forks.
2*It may be tought to come by a used front blade for your BX1500 for $1000.
The used one I found was $1500 and was no good .
I got lucky and got a brand new $1900 60'' Hyd lift & angle front blade for $1500.:)

bigdad, looks like a nice simple solution. Just wondering, how far below edge of bucket are the 2x's ?

/ snowplow for a bx ideas #40
Page2,

The 2X's extend about three inches below the lip of the FEL. I did that to keep the pressure applied to the center of the bottom 2X. That three inches can help if you want to back drag a little like say away from a structure.

I do use the float feature all of the time on this pusher. Down pressure isn't really needed for such a light duty situation and by floating it the blade automatically falls off of edges of concrete/asphalt and skids over grass.

It's handy for crumbing those little ridges of snow and pushing the tops of snow piles farther away. Not made for any type of momentum snow removal. (Disclaimer..Ha!)
