Something dad brought home from the mill 50+ years ago, and I still have it. He worked at Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA and brought home truckloads scrap iron over the years. He would use this in his disc harrow he pulled behind the 8N Ford to prep for his huge garden.

Plowing a little snow today with my SCUT, and decided to dig it out to put on my 5 foot scrape blade. I decided today I could no longer pick it up, so used the bucket.

It appears to be cast to lay on 2 channel irons and maybe slide for a counterweight, but always been a mystery. It weighs 164 lbs.

Any ideas?

Yeah... good idea you decided not to pick it up by hand anymore! ;)

Pretty neat what the folks used to bring home.
Unless it is radioactive…….does it glow in the dark :p

Not likely. The openings aren’t parallel and there’s no threaded holes for the bolts that hold the tool in.

Am I reading that weight correctly at 1649 lbs? Or is it 164.9?

164.9 upon closer inspection...neat idea I happened upon. I got a couple of empty 55 gal barrels. Made a cradle for one on my landplane and just chain and bindered another on to the towner disk set. Adjustable weight by volume up to 500 pounds.

Looks to me like the weight off a Dearborn disc plow.

Well I will be darn. That's it! Looks just like this. Square holes on the bottom and a pipe for parking stand. We never had a plow like that so something he just collected years ago.. Many thanks!

Better clean up that bathroom scale and put it back before your wife finds out you used the good scale out in the garage. 😁

Good point! That scale was a freebie from work through a wellness program. I intend to use it well 😁🤣😅
