snow

Argee, I'm almost as far south as you can go in michigan just off 69. In feb. we usually go to lake city for a guy's weekend out,and just relax.

I thought 69 ran E&W from Lansing to Port Huron./w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif What city are you near? I used to live down state in the Utica area.

You can take 69 all the way to fort wayne, it turns south at lansing.

I gotcha now! S. of Battle Creek. Used to work for Clark Equipment, back in the 60's, they were based out of B.C.. Are they still there? Hunted a few times over near Lake City, nice country. Ahh the memories. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Not sure if they are still in bussiness or not.

MossRoad -- I love winter too! No dirt gets tracked inside by the dogs. The world looks so clean and crisp. A whole new assortment of hobbies and pastimes to ponder...

We had our annual bobsled party last weekend and the conditions were perfect! Made fewer (and gentler) curves this year, so it's a much faster course. And after 20 people played on it all day we have a great base of ice! Also, after last year's experience we decided not to end it in a stand of trees /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif, and instead the last several yards are on level ground and end at the stone wall. Unfortunately, with the ice, sleds don't exactly slow down on the level part and several friends were launched over the stone wall into the road! And double bummer -- this sub-zero stuff cuts into the comfort zone!

Eventually I'll get this thing figured out! Take care.

Pete

Pete, you need to make a big pile of snow at the end of the sled run. That way your riders will go up the pile & then back down & towards the hill instead of the street! I think Clementine is up for the challange.

PS If I get up to Stowe this year, I want to ride the bobsled run.

Hey, I said I like to go ice fishing, but that's where the craziness stops. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Although I did drive my car on the ice one time, I will never do it again. Too scary /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

"The greatest thing about fishing is that even if you don't catch fish, you've still wasted the day." (Author unknown)

I eat everything I catch, except the chips. They go back in to grow up to be keeper sized cubes /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The thickest ice I've ever seen was 22" on Diamond lake in Cassopolis, Michigan. There were cars, trucks and tractors out there driving around. I use a hand powered auger that I bought when I was a kid. Takes about 10 turns for every 3" of hard ice. Pretty fast. I also have a gas powered one, but it is heavy. Rarely use it.

Net fishing through the ice sounds cool. Any old family photos of that?

Homebuilding always puts travel plans on hold. As for the comments about the clothing in QLD...I'd pitch in for a nice pair of trousers /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I like it so bitter cold that when you go outside the hair in your nose freezes and you know if you stay out too long, you'll die. Then you know that you are alive.

The best day of fishing I ever had was a few years ago with my father-in-law. We went to a private lake. It was 22 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. The sun was blazing and the wind was howling and blowing drift snow into our eyes and it was so bright that you could hardly see. The holes were freezing over every couple of minutes. We were over two feet of water and pulled out about a dozen large perch. My father-in-law caught the biggest perch of his life and smiled from ear to frozen ear. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I'm not sure how big a pile I need at the end. The one my friend went up and over was as tall as the top of my ROPS. Thanks to the ice, she didn't slow down one bit!

Pete

Try sprinkleing some loose hay on top of the ice, and let it freeze down. It will slow you down suffeicently, but not suddenly.

MossRoad,
I know of a place where someone drove their pickup on the ice just once. Somehow it escaped his attention that it's not smart to drive on ice near an incoming stream. I believe the insurance company totaled it! And no, it wasn't me.

Mike

I saw a video of a whole line of cars and light trucks heading out onto the ice to go fishing. About 5-10 vehicles went down a boat ramp and onto the lake until some guy in a monster 4X4 came down the ramp and just kept going right up to the windows. They climbed out the rear window and stood on the roof looking upset /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
