If you have a skid steer quick connect front end then I would say that getting a quick attach plow is a good option. I built my own and clear most of the snow with the blade, switch to the bucket to move and pile snow higher and I am done. I have about $600 into the plow setup including buying a user meyer blade. I will post pics of setup

Hi carl bert

I think you have close to ideal setup for snow I would get a mid duty 5-6' blade for the 1 to 8" snows forward use your new blower for heavier widen drive and the FEL to clean snot at end of drive from gov as well as close in work. dress warm ski goggles etc

For my 900' gravel drive I went with front and rear homemade blades. If needed the front comes off in few min and the FEL goes on in the same amount time. Worked great this past winter and for under $200 for both think I hit it.

My snow plowing learning progression:

For many years I got by with an ATV and a blade. Three years ago we moved in to the country that is flat as a pancake. The first two years the ATV and plow did fine. Last year it was 12" of snow and 25MPH winds. This equals 4' snow drifts. An ATV with a blade against 4' snow drifts just isn't a fair fight. So I get out the tractor and FEL. This worked much better than the ATV and blade but the tractor with R4's, even on level ground in 4WD, could barely push it's own weight. Much less with the loader on the ground. So this year I bought the meanest set of tractor snow chains that I could find. I have learned that there can be so much snow, drifted so high, that no blade can take care of it no matter what it is attached to short of a bulldozer. The snow has to be physically moved and not pushed. Either by FEL or snow blower.

I have R4s and bought chains last year after getting fed up with the ice. They make a BIG difference. Yeah with 4 foot drifts it's blower time.

I'm having trouble seeing why chains make such a difference - doesn't the metal just slip on the ice?

Good morning,

I can tell you the metal does not slip as long as you have ballast in the tires on ice or good dry traction.

Here's my set up with a b26,64" rear blower and a laurin cab with heat...now when I turn my tractor on.it does return the favour .... IMG_2431.JPG
