Why is that? Some sort of "self esteem by association"?

I know a guy who knows a millionaire. .....

pathetic!

Yes, heard the same tonight on NBC Nightly News, and that it was a family member stuck in the snow that he was helping when the snowcat started to roll. I think, but am not sure, that the pic I posted in post #5 is of his actual machine with him in it. Looks like you have to step on the tread to get in and out.
In that case it would be very possible to slip trying to get back in a rolling machine by climbing over the snow covered tracks. Easy then to get thrown down in front of the machine.

fox news =After successfully towing his own vehicle out of his driveway, Renner got out of the snowcat, and the massive snow groomer started to roll. "In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempted to get back into the driver's seat," Balaam said. "Based on our investigation, it's at this point Mr. Renner is run over by the PistenBully."

Just a sad, stark reminder to make sre when you get off of a machine (running or not) to make sure to take all proper safety precautions- setting the brake, turning off pto, etc, etc.

I have to consciously think about that when I get out to clear the clogged snowblower, or clear the radiator screen when mowing. I tell myself “do it right, it only takes a second for something to go terribly wrong”

Those doors open from the front , it appears and they are big . I would guess it was rolling forward and he fell off trying to get around and open the door from the rear . Yes machines will kill ! Kevin .

At least with a tractor, you have a slim chance of shooting between the wheels if it's freewheeling. Why does it not have a deck over the tracks at the door? Is it looks, because it does look cool? Or because a deck would cause a massive snow/ice jam?

Looks to me like there is no way to get onboard without stepping into deaths doorway  . I would have taken one look at that situation and said oh hell no I aint trying to stop this ( especially with snow on the moving tracks) This nearly deadly accident was totally avoidable and the descision to try to climb onboard was a poor one. He's lucky to be alive

Sort of indirectly related but I owned a Kubota BX before I got my JD 2025r. They are both HST machines but the Kubota you could leave in gear with it running and it would just sit there on relatively flat ground. On the JD you have to put it in neutral to leave it running. I either didn’t set the brake correctly or more likely just didn’t set it at all and went in my shop to get a key. I came out and my brand new tractor is rolling across the yard slowly gaining speed and about to head down hill. I briefly considered trying to get on and realized I’m not that coordinated. I just jammed the brake on with my hand while running along side it which stopped it. It’s easy to happen.

Not to scold, but one could slip while running along side a moving vehicle/tractor. I won't say I haven't done what dodge man did, because I have and even moved the tractors by holding the hst pedal down while walking along side. I don't see how there would be a way to stop a tracked machine like the PB or even a dozer while not on the machine. Maybe kill switch cords should be on them. Jon

I’ve operated very similar machine but the automatic brakes that are supposed to come on when the door is open were disconnected. Anytime you get out of a machine like that the engine should be set at idle or shut off and the blade should be put down on the ground so it can’t roll very easily. The only way to get on or off the machine is by standing-walking on the track.

Having driven a few trail bullies and a pb280 a buzzer sounds when you open the door on the trail bullies and I don’t recall if it kills throttle response on the newer ones but it might… the parking brake doesn’t activate. I’ve accidentally and on purpose climb out of the cab without setting the parking brake. I can’t say if it was rolling backwards I wouldn’t climb up on the track and try to get in so I could see how this happened.

I find it funny how a few of the article make these like unicorns and make the fact that he owned one seem weird- they’re roughly 25k and in rural areas with lots of snow that’s a very cheap and practical “plow truck”

Hate to see anyone get hurt. Snow machines are danougeus and need to be respected, like most machines. The Trail bully I operated.
Pretty epic to have the hazard markers pointing right into the hazard 😝

Jeremy Renner is "hospitalized in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while plowing snow,"

Anybody know what happened?
Prayers for a full & speedy recovery
He got out of the cab to help a neighbor and must have left the machine in neutral without the park brake and the machine rolled forward and ran over him. Stupid mastake by someone not qualified to run machinery
