It is the RPM you need to set the engine to run a PTO driven implement to make that PTO shaft turn at 540 RPM. Most PTO driven implements were designed to be run at 540 RPM. Not saying you cant run them a little slower, and I often do for various reasons.

Best practice it to throttle down to idle speed then engage the PTO for your shaft driven implement, then throttle up to the 540 mark (depending on your tractor that could be anywhere from 2200 to close to 3000 rpm) and then got to work with your implement. When you want to stop, slowly throttle down, then disengage your PTO control. There are many different ways to engage the PTO, read your manual, some use the clutch, others are electrical/hydraulic etc. Let us know if we can help in any way.
