Small pond management?

My pond is about 400x75 and is about 8 feet deep in the middle. Some years water lillies take hold, and other years the water is open and clear. I've been trying to raise ducks on the pond, with limited success. Raised 24 ducks a few years ago. They lived on the pond through the summer and flew south. Each year a handful return, but only stay a few weeks and then move on. I see them again in the fall. I know they are my ducks because the walk up to the house and sun themselves in the front yard where they were raised when young.
