maybe RexB the extra 45lbs i'm packing more than you might have been enough to bend it. might be time to start dieting.
LOL, yeah the past few years I've been gaining weight on a diet too

"My pedal travels downwards 4-1/2" in forward, 2-1/4" in reverse "

So when the pedal has reached its limits of travel, has the pedal bottomed out on the floorboard or is it limited by the travel in the operating shaft?
It hits the floorboard both directions, think it's been that way since new but not sure. Haven't noticed any slower speeds but that's subjective. I'll put prybars on it and see if it bends upwards any with a reasonable amount of pressure. Maybe better to take it off and bend if needed. What's the pedal travel on your mechanic "rebent" treddle?

Though thimk I'd rather have it stopped by the floorboard for if I stand on it, rather than the linkage taking all my weight again and again...

Well Highbeem you've come through again, thanks

I went and looked at the treddle today and sure enough it was bent, it only measured 1 1/4" on the reverse stroke and 3 1/4 fwd stroke,

all i did was place a fire brick under the the front of the teddle and bent it up by hand, soft as butter would be the best way to describe how easily it bent, did the same thing to the front and now it goes twice as fast as it was before i bent it. :D

very easy to watch the actuator and see when to stop bending,my treddle still hits the floor and is not putting any undo stress on the actuator, looks like a trip to the welding bench may be in order, to stiffen things up a little bit.

heres a couple of pics of the kioti cleaning out my ditch...... IMAGE001.JPG

*another walk to the shop sheesh* :)

In vehicles, the pre-CVT xmsns used the same 1st gear band for forward and reverse, i suppose that CVT is similar, so does it follow that these HST tractors use the same gearing for forward and reverse?

Yes, same gearing fwd and reverse, only difference is that the variable displacement pump isn't allowed to go as far "on stroke" in reverse. As someone pointed out, that means slower speed, but greater torque.

I found that I can use High gear in reverse and move fairly fast. But same thing in forward high. Not so good, just bogs down

The only way to do hard work in the top two gears is to feather the foot treadle so that the pump only goes a small way on stroke. I do that to go up and down hills to work sites. I can climb hill that bog me down if I keep the pedal down full (full pump stroke) but have no problem when I ease off. It's a pain when I get to working to constantly have to worry about it, so I shift to low gear.
