To keep the hitch of the plow from flipping forward you could cut two pieces of pipe about 12 to 18 inches shorter than your chains. Then just feed the chains through the pipe and this will keep it from flipping all the way forward but still allow it to float. Just a thought.

I like that idea. You might also consider replacing the chains with one or two shock absorbers.

The plate does need to be able to fold down some, but not at the extent of what it does. I do like that pipe idea though. I'll have to see if they will interfere with anything.
