Is that a self-powered mower, or just a big guard over the gearbox or belts?

16 horse Briggs!!

I like those. They make a lot of sense. You could pull a single or pair of 44, 48, or 50 or 60 inchers with a small CUT, robust mower, or ATV. You could mow some serious acreage with minimal investment and cheap upkeep.

Now that's slicker than cat poop on a linoleum floor.
Did you make it from scratch?

I used steel, scratch won't hold up out here....
Sorry....
Yep..built from the ground up..outta stuff I had laying around,or found in someone elses pile.Neighbor gave me an MTD tractor(motor, gas tank, rear wheels and some pulleys) Got another deck from the scrap guy(spindles, pulleys and belts).Found a free Gilson tractor along my route(spindles, pulleys and belts..repowered that tractor and gave it to the neighbor). The casters are made from $5 wheels I bought at TSC.Bought the sheet metal for 30 cents a pound.

bobodu, I think I might be gonna get in trouble now.... I've ben pondering a way to pull 12' or so of mower behind the lil' TC21...Hadn't thought of using 3 self powered rotocutters!!! at about a grand each new... But 3 used ones or custom built... hitch and go... while I couldn't let the pasture get to tall... It would make much quicker work of the 6+ acres I cut now with the 5ft-er... I think i already have the metal in 2 old finish mowers and a really old roto cutter... Add some wheels to 2 of them and couple more motors... thanks for the idea!!! now to talk to may nighbor with the stick welder and hash out the details... He's one of types that if you can think of he can usually figure out a simple way to build it....

Wow, that thing must be heavy, The tractor has traction aids to help pull it around /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif , Maybe you could add a steering wheel and a rollbar and just drive it ....

All kidding aside what a great deal for $50 and sometime, thats american ingenuity or your just cheap er I mean thrifty /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

When building a mower deck is there any magic to the underside design such as reflectors and shutes?

I found out that I can put a 1 1/2 ounce piece of chocolate in my mouth if I don't have my teeth in.....
Sooooo......
Logic dictates that if I use a big deck with nothing to interfere with the grass going wherever it wants to,I outta be fine.Since I got no bloody golf course out there,I really don't care about an emaculate cut.I also don't care about it throwing clippings to one side or t'other...what I do get is a nice even layer of clipping!!!

Here's the belt arrangement...simple triple "D" set up.Still need to add real adjusters on the idlers. The blades are always engaged.

Good job, that's the way to GETTER DONE . When I get a /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Brain Storm, and fire up the torch and welder, the neighbors just bow their heads and sneak away. What are you going to add to the rear part that sags abit? Just a thought, long pc of rebar welded at both sides and raised up in the center, kinda like a bridge thingy, OH no, I said thingy is he still around,,,,,, haven't heard from him in awhile,,,,, since him and Soundguy!!!!! had words.
Anyway, good looking mower. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Probably use some more of that 1 square tube I have out in the barn and run a couple of pieces up to the front too.Where you at Bigbear? I'm EXACTLY 11 miles west of the Ft.Wayne TSC and 11 miles east of the Columbia City TSC! Rightcheer in the corn and the beans....oh..and wheat stubble.

I live outside of Frankfort, or as we call it (Franktucky). About 50 miles north of Indy, 26 miles SE of Lafayette. Corn on 3 sides and beans on the other. One acre here at the house and 18 acres about 5 miles north of the house with a creek running through it and lots of deer, don't take much of an excuse to head for the woods /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif OH, did you hear that, sounded like a limb broke over at the woods, I better go check. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
