Shackle for Drawbar?

The screw in pins are more for cases where you attach/detach often, like for logging or towing, and you need to pay attention to them -- over long term use, any swiveling action can start to loosen the threads. They generally have a bigger diameter pin for the same size clevis.

I have one that I use for logging or if I need to pull someone out of the mud (usually can attach clevis to teeny factory tow hooks, and then get a tow strap through the clevis). But for long term "install and be done with it" use on a tractor, I think pin with clip is the way to go. The factory drawbar itself is usually held in with a pin/clip, though it may be a different style.

I'll adopt the TBN solution: straight with pin, straight with screw pin, Twisted, and chain hook. Need a hitch pin too!
TBN says you also need these! :D

Love choker hooks (middle pic). I found a place online that sells them for about $6-7, which is a deal.

If you will be driving through any weeds or tall grass, put the pin on from the bottom so the clip will be on top and protected. I lost several clips while bush hogging before I started installing it this way.

I do it the same way! And the drawbar pin itself too! Too much pin snagging brush around here.

A box full of misc hooks, loops, shackles, etc. is essential for any tractor owner. Don't just stop with one, get a bunch, you'll never know why you need it until you need it! ;)

A problem with loose pin shackles compared to screw pin shackles, is that the loose ones can more easily bend open if you happen to get a hard side pull on it. Only the safety pin in shear stops the spread.

Well, now, see you taught me something there. Of course it makes perfect sense, but I had not thought about it before.

True enough, but the 7/8" shackle I bought has a safe working load limit of 16,000 lbs. I don't think I'll be seeing any distortion......

Anchor shackles on boats are virtually always the screw type, and the screw is ordinarily safety-wired closed, or at the very minimum has a cable tie through it.
