Really? You can drill a hole in 1/2 in. steel with a hole saw? I wouldn't have thought so. I wouldn't have attempted even a 1/4 hole with a regular drill bit in that much steel.

This this is a bit hijacked but I don't mind, heck I'll join in.

I've also cut steel with a cheap hole saw. It works but you need to be sure to spin the saw slowly and use lube like wd40. Also, don't expect many holes from the saw. However, if the hole is worth $5 to you burning a hole saw on the job works well.
