Scariest Tractor Moment

I rolled my Farmall and lost my eye.

I ended up selling the property a few years back and now have a nice flat parcel.

No more hills for me.

I know I live in Flat Florida, and last week (Thursday) I was over in Mobile, Al making a delivery. As I was leaving, I watch another guy driving his tractor and it gave me the willies! He was bushhoging the incline of an over pass as I was sitting at the light, and I went as far as pulling out my camera/phone to take a video of it when it went over. How gravity kept that thing on that incline is beyond me! You can bet I won't be doing that the way he was doing it. He kept it on all fours and never missed a beat, so I must give him credit for being a better operator than I am.

I spent a winter in Fla when I was about 20. When I left and drove back up north, driving my car on the hilly roads was scary for the first day or so.
Also, the brushhog must be one of the lowest c.g. attachments there is.

Scariest moment as to date; writing the check for the new tractor.

my older cousin was raking hay for dad with the John deere B, and an old side delivery ground driven rake. Dad told him not to cut the corners too close as there were no fenders on the tractor. Well, bout an hour later he comes into the house really pale and shows us that rake mounted on top of the steering wheel! We still don't know how he didn't get a scratch...

I was working on an old Nuffield starter. I was standing in front of the left rear wheel and went to bump the starter a little to see if it would work. The tractor instantly started (that never happens) and the tractor was in gear. The rear tire pushed me down and the wheel started to run over my leg. at that instant the tractor lost fuel prime and stopped on its' own. Providence.

This is good, keep 'em coming! Most every TBN member has a tractor and moments happen all the time!

PSJ, out of curiosity, that farm is pretty far away from MD, why not buy an inexpensive property is SO VA? I couldn't be away from our babies(tractors) for that long at a time!

Other than dqdave's writing of the check, I am not sure what you mean by good... Good we live to talk about it I guess.

I loaded a utility trailer full of broken concrete to dump by the drain pipe in our pond. The dike is really narrow and I managed to get turned 90 degrees backing the trailer part way over the incline. I set the brake and jumped off and with the tractor losing my 200 lbs it was just enough. The trailer was going down the steep incline pulling my skidding tractor. Somehow I immediately grabbed the dump handle and dumped the concrete and stopped the tractor.

My Dad and I just stared at each other knowing how close we came to putting the tractor into 12 feet of water.

Years later my Dad was bush hogging that dike and somehow got the back tire off the outside edge. He must have raised the hog and the tractor flipped over. Luckily the rops landed on a tree branch and kept it from going all the way over.

I don't drive the tractor on that side of the pond anymore.

Was box blading around a 3 foot high steep embankment next to a road.

Tractor started to slide down the slope, only thing to do was to steer into it and hope it don't roll.

Of course the box blad caugh on the embankment, and somehow I managed to have an M9000 tractor hanging in mid-air balanced on two tires... one front and one back on opposite sides.

Nothing bad come of it, but dern my rear end done puckered up!

On my old GC2300 I was using my sub soiler to open a trench for wires. I was on a small slope no seat belt on all of a sudden the tractor went up on two wheels and threw me out trapping my one leg between the seat and steering wheel with me standing on one leg in the wifes new flower garden. Don't know why it did'nt keep coming over but it started going foward and set back down on all four wheels. I now wear my seat belt all the time. I don't know what would have hurt more the tractor coming over on me or my wife had I messed up her garden

(1) First day I had the tractor I just had to make war with an old dead tree in my brook....
Did I ever learn that it is not a good idea to pull a tree in reverse with it connected to the bucket..... Putting that new tractor into 4x4 (in reverse) suddenly found my rear wheel climbing into the air as the front wheels wanted to continue under the tractor......

(2) Three engine hours later that same new tractor was totaled by a car with me on it.

Both quite scary...

About 20 years ago I was leveling out some piles of dirt for someone with an old JD450 track loader with no ROPS. The area was full of brush and I couldn't see the ground. As I was pushing the dirt in 1 area, I ended up on a large branch that was in a ditch that broke. The machine started to tip. The operators area is kind of tight and as I was trying to get out I think I didn't have my legs in the right position and I got stuck momentarily, and then I froze. The machine teetered slowly and I thought for sure it was going to tip over but it didn't. It still upsets me that I froze because I have jumped off machines before and even onto that machine a few times. We used to have trouble with the starter and would use a screwdriver at the solenoid and a couple times it was in gear when we did it and it would take off, luckily in a low gear. I've also had to jump in a moving pickup truck and a tandem axle dump truck to stop them.

That happened to my grandfather as a kid. He was mowing with a rear mower on his Oliver 60, the mower caught a stump, flipped him off, started moving again, and he had to catch up to it.
