Whoops, forgot about the post! Hate to keep everybody in suspense so long. You only need 1 part, available almost everywhere. The part is the pto adapter from 1-1/8" (old tractor) to 1-3/8 (standard). I think I had to turn the inside diameter out just a little to make it fit (about 1 hr of machinist's time if you don't have a lathe). You put the adapted part on the pto shaft, and attach it with a 1/4 or 5/16th inch bolt, that acts like a shear pin. You will have to cut your drive lines about 6" shorter than standard, as the adapter moves the shaft out about 6". Now for the fun part- how do you change the direction?? You don't. Suppose you were adapting this tractor to a funnel type fertilizer spreader. You don't adapt the tractor, you unbolt the spreader fins, and re-attach them backwards- fertilizer doesn't care whether its thrown left or right! Got a tiller to adapt? Same principle applies, swap the left facing tines to the opposite side, and vice-versa. Mower? Old Woods model RM 59, Swisher 40 " trailmower, and others have left handed blades. If life gives you lemons...find someone that life has given vodka, invite her over and have a party! (with apologies to Ron White for the stolen quote!)Dave:D :D

well that solves that problem.nice solution.however some guys may not want to tinker with their attachments for those get a tractor with clockwise pto.

It is fine if you have the pto attachments that you need for it.

Several years ago I bought a used Woods RM48. It was made for a backwards PTO tractor. I bought a new set of blades that were correct rotation and the center bolts would not stay in. Fortunately I had a set of correct spindles to swap out. The center bolt on the backwards Woods is right hand thread. On a standard Woods the center bolt is left hand thread.

Chain drive tillers do not like to run backwards, tensoner is own the wrong side.

Forgot to mention that bit about the tiller and the chain tensioner. For the record, I haven't done a tiller, but I have converted the fertilizer spreader, and it works well. If I were doing a tiller, I would reverse the chain tensioner, or make one out of a block of black locust.:p
