Can’t imagine not being able to walk my trails year round. Thank god for compact tractors.

I am sure one of the reasons I enjoy the aforementioned work is that I dont HAVE to do it, and can set my own pace and schedule.
A good example - I dont mind repairing my own cars IF I am not pressured.
I remember being much younger, married, with small children and having to fix my car because I could not afford to pay someone else to do it.
Being under a car at 1am because you have to go to work the next day is decidedly 'unfun'.
But still, I have to say, the sense of satisfaction I felt after the job was done was profound.
What do you call those days? Character building life experiences?

Pre-millennial's

Started working on cars at 8 or 9, worked at service station at 11, and definitely laid under the car, in the winter, 1am, had to get to work and school. :D - Kids look at me like I am insane when I say an such things. Now the law forbids it.

I knew my son would be ok in life when I walked into the garage one day, and there was my 17 year old son with the transfer case from his F250, taken apart.
I said what the heck are you doing? He indicated it had a leak, and he was fixing it. And he did.

I remember when my Dad rented this place to some down and out family in the early 70s. I liked them and stayed with them over the summer. He had a CIVIC company car that got repossessed, leaving him with only this non operational Dodge Monaco. I remember him struggling with the transmission, little balls and fluid everywhere. When he got it put back together, he only had reverse! I don't remember what happened to these people after that, but it only went from bad to worse.

Got up today. Went out and fed the horses. On way back in from the barn the sun was coming up. Beautiful sun rise and the birds were singing. Ahhhh. Heaven.
