Safety switch under seat inoperative

The safety switch under the seat of my L3400 Kubota does not shut off the engine when tractor is in running and I raise the seat. Could there be anything wrong other than the switch itself? I hate to go and buy a new and probably expensive switch and find out that was not the problem. I tested the switch the only way I know how with an ohmeter. It has three poles and when I hold one ohmeter lead on the middle pole and the other on one of the side poles, ohm reading will come and go when lever is moved up and down. It will only do this with one of the outside poles and the middle pole.

It shouldn't shut off the engine unless you have one of the PTOs running. At least that's how mine works.

If it is like my L4740, there are TWO switches. One is in the seat and kills the engine if you get up AND the PTO is enganged. The other is in the base of the frame and OVER-RIDES the seat kill switch so you can operate the PTO out of the seat, but you have to get out of the seat, flop the seat over, then engage the PTO. The first keeps you from forgetting to shut the PTO off when you get out of the tractor (and inadvertantly getting into moving machinery) -- the second allows you to be out of the tractor with the PTO running when you need to (log splitted, cleaning out a spray tank, running a PTO powered generator, etc. -- imagine having to sit in the seat to keep your generatort running through a hurricane!)

I think your setup is working properly,that is, the way it should work. If you just get up with the PtO engaged without lifting the seat, it should shut off the engine. Standing up while you're in gear also shuts you down
