SA TRANS FAN

   / SA TRANS FAN #11
Shoot, was expecting my replacement fan to get here today but didn't, meanwhile I was taking the cover to take a look at how this is going to go but unlike other videos I saw on doing this, the shaft doesn't collapse/extend and there is a welded beam under it, so how is this supposed to be replaced?
No idea on how to replace it, but several on how to make it better.

While you have it apart is a chance to improve that poorly designed Yanmar fan guard. There's really no excuse for such poor design. Having made the mistake, I'm surprised that Yanmar doesn't provide an upgrade for free.

If I had one of those plastic fan SAs, the addition of some small mesh stainless steel hardware cloth pop-riveted over the OEM Yanmar guard would be an improvement worth doing. That one is a no-brainer. Amazon has the SS hardware cloth. Mesh size is rated by number of openings per inch.

Another improvement requiring a little more thought would be to fit a fan with metal blades. McMaster.com stocks a variety of metal fan blades. Most water pump fans on older cars were made of sturdy metal for good reasons - the same reasons also apply to Yanmar fans.
